The Details
Location
Madikwe Kopano sits within the 185,000-acre Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa's North West Province, on the Botswana border. The reserve is malaria-free and home to the Big Five, wild dog and more than 60 other mammal species. Access is via the Eastern Madikwe Airstrip, with lodge transfers included.
Accommodation
The camp has four generously proportioned thatched suites arranged around a compact main area with views of a waterhole. Each suite pairs an earthy Afro-chic interior with a private deck, plunge pool, outdoor shower, en-suite bathroom with tub and indoor shower, a lounge with wood-burning fireplace, and king or twin beds. Air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a stocked mini-bar and coffee and tea facilities are standard.
Activities
Twice-daily game drives with FGASA-accredited field guides are complemented by guided bush walks, stargazing and wildlife lectures. Bush breakfasts, picnic lunches and bush dinners are offered subject to weather and occupancy. Kopano guests share Lelapa Camp's Eco House Kids' Adventure Safari Club when travelling as a family on exclusive-use terms.
Dining
Meals are served in a central open-plan lounge and dining area under thatch, with private dinners set up under the trees and boma dinners around the fire. The kitchen focuses on fresh, mindfully portioned South African cooking paired with a curated selection of Cape wines, and adapts easily to dietary preferences.
Spa
The Safari Spa at Lelapa Camp, a short walk away, is Madikwe's premier spa. Kopano guests have full access to spa treatments, the gym and the signature pool. Treatments are charged separately.
