The Details

Mont Eco sits deep in the Klein Karoo outside Montagu, on 6,750 hectares (around 16,700 acres) of rehabilitated wilderness. The reserve is home to the Big Five and more than 100 Karoo species, and the setting is what guests notice first: quiet, arid, open country with the kind of stillness the northern parks have lost.

The property positions itself as a working conservation reserve rather than a hotel with animals attached. Rewilding, anti-poaching and community upliftment sit at the centre of the operation, and the low guest cap keeps pressure on the land and the wildlife light.

Accommodation

Guests stay at Kingsley Lodge, the reserve's single luxury lodge, capped at 14 guests in total. Rooms are described by returning guests as spacious and generously appointed, with attention paid to detail and comfort.

Dining
