The Details

Location

Mopiri Camp lies on the north-western side of the Okavango Delta, around 180 miles from Maun and 62 miles from Shakawe, on the shores of Weboro Lake. The lake is untouched by cottages, boats, power lines or litter, which leaves the camp set in a quiet pocket of permanent water surrounded by papyrus channels and islands.

Access is by a flight of just under 40 minutes from Maun to Mopiri's private airstrip, followed by a five-minute boat ride into camp. Helicopter transfers can be arranged from Maun and other lodges, and self-drive guests can leave vehicles at Etsha 6 and meet a guide for the onward boat transfer.

Accommodation

The camp has seven tented luxury rooms and three family units, all set along the lake's edge. Rooms have crisp white linen, rain showers, twin sinks, western toilets, ceiling fans, eco-friendly Healing Earth toiletries, coffee and tea facilities and a personal safe. Beds are two three-quarter beds that convert to a super king with extra length, mosquito nets and insect repellent provided. Family units add two single beds for children.

Dining

Meals are served in the main area, around the fire or at scenic spots across the camp and surrounding waterways. Breakfast can be a continental spread before an early boat cruise or a full English later in the morning. Lunches, high tea and gourmet three-course dinners are prepared fresh by the in-house chefs, with dietary requirements catered for when notified in advance. Pre-dinner drinks and nibbles are served around the fire from around 7pm.

Wildlife and Activities

Activities are flexible rather than scheduled, with lodge coaches and nature hosts planning each day around guest interests. Motorboat cruises trace the papyrus channels, the double-storey barge Osprey runs morning and sundowner outings, and mokoro trips push into secluded waterways from a quiet poling station. Walking on the islands, lure fishing (March to December), birding across more than 350 species and full-day 'Delta in a Day' outings combining boat, mokoro and walking are all on offer.

Cultural visits to the Etsha communities give a window into life in the Delta. Optional extras at additional cost include helicopter scenic flights, visits to the Tsodilo Hills UNESCO World Heritage site, the Life with Elephants experience, and wellness treatments at the Delta Dreams Spa, including massages, facials, manicures and pedicures.
