The Details
Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp is built around a single idea: the herds move, so the camp moves with them. From December to March it sits at Small Marsh in the Ndutu area of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the short-grass plains where wildebeest drop more than 8,000 calves a day and predator activity peaks. From June to October it relocates to Kogatende in the northern Serengeti, within easy reach of the Mara and Bologonja river crossings.
The camp is small and unfenced, with rip-stop canvas tents and shade-cloth exteriors built to handle Serengeti weather while keeping a light footprint on the land. Both locations are within 20 to 45 minutes of an airstrip, making it straightforward to combine with other Nasikia properties on a northern Tanzania circuit.
Accommodation
Thirteen tents in total: nine standard mobile tents, one triple, two two-bedroom family tents and one tour leader tent. Each tent measures roughly 39 by 13 feet, with handcrafted furnishings, mosquito-netted beds, a private patio and large netted windows for cross-ventilation. En-suite bathrooms have a flushing toilet, bucket shower and eco-friendly toiletries, lit by solar power with battery-charging facilities and wifi available in camp.
Game Drives
Shared morning and afternoon game drives run from camp in open 4x4 vehicles with experienced Tanzanian guides. At Ndutu, drives focus on the calving herds, big cats and the seasonal lakes. At Kogatende, the priority is the river crossings, with guides positioning vehicles along the Mara and Bologonja for the dramatic plunges that define the migration. Private vehicle use is available as a supplement for guests who want their own pace.
Hot-Air Balloon Safari
Balloon safaris launch at first light and drift for one to two hours over the plains, with herds visible below in their thousands during migration season. Flights end with a champagne breakfast laid out in the bush. Booked as an optional extra.
Dining
Meals are served in the mess tent, around the fire or out in the bush as the day allows. Bush breakfasts, picnic lunches and fireside dinners under the stars are part of the standard rhythm, with the kitchen catering to families, honeymooners and small groups.
