The Details
Location
Ngorongoro Rim Lodge sits on the eastern edge of the Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania, looking down over the caldera floor where lions, elephants, black rhino and large herds of plains game live within the natural walls of the collapsed volcano. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area forms part of the wider Serengeti ecosystem, with Lake Manyara, Tarangire and the southern Serengeti all within reach for guests building a longer northern-circuit itinerary.
Accommodation
Rooms are designed in an eco-luxury style that leans on natural materials and restrained finishes rather than overt opulence. Each room is fitted with a bathtub, complimentary Wi-Fi and 24-hour tea and coffee, and the layout is built to make the most of the crater-rim outlook.
Dining
The lodge restaurant serves gourmet menus across breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the bar and lounge offering a quieter spot for a drink after a long day on the crater floor. Service is personalised throughout, with the kitchen happy to accommodate dietary requirements when flagged in advance.
Activities
The headline activity is a full-day descent into the Ngorongoro Crater, where guests game-drive across the 100-square-mile crater floor in search of the Big Five. The lodge can also arrange excursions to surrounding cultural sites and shorter walks along the crater rim, returning to the lodge for sundowners with the caldera spread out below.
