The Details

Location

Nyasi sits in the Lamai Wedge, the slim triangle of the Serengeti pinned between the Mara River and the Kenyan border. It is one of the least-trafficked corners of the northern Serengeti, which matters during migration season when the river crossings further south can draw dozens of vehicles to a single sighting. Transfers run to and from the Lamai airstrip and are included in the rate.

The camp is part of Auberge Safari, the new umbrella brand formed when Legendary Expeditions and Chem Chem Safari combined their nine Tanzanian properties.

Accommodation

There are eight tented rooms and one larger family cottage, all under acacia canopy and all with ensuite bathrooms. Rooms can be set up as king or twin, and come with mosquito nets, a rainfall shower, twin vanities, a safe and a private verandah. Interiors lean on earth tones and explorer-era furnishings rather than contemporary gloss. Wi-Fi reaches both the tents and the main areas, and laundry is complimentary.

Dining

Meals move between the main mess tent, a private al fresco setting and bush locations chosen by your guide. Breakfasts and lunches often go out as picnics so drives aren't cut short, and sundowners are set up wherever the light is best. House wines, beers, local spirits, soft drinks and coffee are all included.

Activities

Game drives run on your schedule in a private vehicle with a private guide, which is unusual at this price point and the main reason to choose Nyasi over the larger northern Serengeti camps. The Lamai Wedge offers heavy predator activity year-round, with lion, cheetah and leopard resident on the plains and large crocodiles stationed at the river crossing points. Hot-air balloon flights over the northern Serengeti can be arranged as an optional extra.
