Location

Sala Beach House sits at 75 Ocean Drive in Shaka's Rock, a quiet residential stretch of the Dolphin Coast about 40 miles north of Durban and an hour from King Shaka International Airport. The hotel opens directly onto Thompson's Bay, a sheltered natural cove known for its tidal pool, rocky headlands and warm Indian Ocean swimming.

Accommodation

The main house has seven rooms and suites: two Pool View Rooms downstairs sharing a lobby, two Ocean View Rooms, a Courtyard Suite, an Ocean Suite and the top-tier Sala Suite. Each has an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, tea and coffee facilities, a mini-fridge and a private veranda. The Ocean View Rooms and ocean-facing suites have floor-to-ceiling windows framing the sea.

The self-contained Sala Beach Villa is a separate three-bedroom house sleeping up to six adults. It has a full kitchen, an open-plan lounge and dining area, a guest bathroom, a private plunge pool and a large terrace overlooking the ocean. For larger groups, the whole property (main house plus villa, sleeping up to 20) can be taken on exclusive use.

Dining

The kitchen works with locally sourced ingredients across a menu that runs from light beachside lunches to longer evening tasting plates. Rates include breakfast, with a three-course dinner available as an add-on. An all-inclusive supplement covers all meals and house drinks. Daily sunset canapés and a cocktail of the day are served to every guest.

Activities

Mornings start with complimentary yoga on the deck. Beyond the beach itself, the team arranges snorkel safaris combining a two-hour reef swim with a guided shore walk, surf lessons and rounds at the nearby Zimbali, Simbithi, Umhlali and Prince's Grant golf courses. The on-site spa offers aromatherapy and deep-tissue massages, along with longer signature rituals using Terres d'Afrique products.
