The Details
Location
Songa stands in the rolling hills of Kogatende, where the northern Serengeti narrows toward the Mara River. The camp's east-facing hillside position sets it apart from camps on the plains below, with golden light spilling across the savannah at first light. The nearest airstrip is Kogatende, and transfers in and out are included.
The location is built around one thing: proximity to the Great Migration's river crossings. From July through October the herds mass on the Mara's banks before plunging into fast water patrolled by crocodiles, and Songa puts guests close enough to be in position when the dust rises.
Rooms
There are eight tented rooms with ensuite bathrooms and one generously sized family cottage, also ensuite. Interiors lean on natural tones and textures, lifted by bright geometric patterns drawn from local culture. King or twin bed configurations are available, each tent fitted with mosquito nets, a rainfall shower, twin vanity and a safe. Laundry is included daily. Wi-Fi reaches both the main areas and the guest tents.
Dining
Meals and drinks are included, covering house wines, beers, local spirits, soft drinks, tea, coffee and water. The camp runs private al fresco dining and a private lounge area. Out on game drives, chefs prepare picnic spreads that the guide sets up at a scenic spot, whether that is a bush breakfast after an early start or a long lunch between sightings.
Activities
Every booking comes with a private vehicle and private guide, so the day runs on your schedule rather than a shared one. Unlimited game drives work the banks of the Mara River and the open savannah beyond, tracking the Migration's progress and the predators that follow it. Hot-air balloon flights lift off at dawn for a view of the herds from above, and sundowners mark the end of the day out on the plains. Select cultural experiences are also included.
