The Details
Location
Soroi Blue sits on the shore of Diani Beach, roughly an hour south of Mombasa on Kenya's south coast. The property fronts a long stretch of soft white sand and the turquoise water of the Indian Ocean, with a fringing reef running the length of the beach that keeps the inshore water calm and clear.
Rooms
Accommodation is limited to eleven rooms and suites, each individually styled and finished with locally crafted artwork. Every room has an en-suite bathroom, a private balcony with loungers, and looks either onto the tropical gardens or straight out over the ocean. The architecture blends Swahili detail with Mediterranean influence, and interiors run to natural textures and generous space rather than heavy decoration.
Dining
The kitchen works around the daily catch and dietary requests are handled without fuss. Beyond the main dining area, guests can book a private lobster and champagne dinner set directly on the sand, lit by lanterns and served away from other tables. It's the standout dining option for couples and small groups.
Activities
Snorkelling is exceptional and can be done straight off the beach, which makes it a genuine option for first-timers as well as experienced divers. The full-day dhow excursion to Wasini Island and Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park is the classic day out, with dolphins often seen on the open-water crossing. Cultural options include guided walks through the UNESCO-recognised Kaya Kinondo sacred forest, still cared for by Mijikenda elders, and a day trip north to Fort Jesus and Mombasa's Old Town. Golfers have an 18-hole course with ocean views ten minutes up the road.
Facilities
The lodge has a swimming pool, spa, bar and TV room, with complimentary Wi-Fi, laundry service and drinking water throughout. The scale is deliberately small; service is personal rather than resort-style.

"We booked a 5-day tour package for Kenya through Safari.com. Anja was extremely prompt with her replies, had great suggestions and walked us through formulating our itinerary. She knew the area very well and was able to suggest alternatives when we needed to move things around. Looking forward to a wonderful African adventure!"
