The Detail

Speke’s Camp is situated on the boundary of the famous Maasai Mara Reserve, surrounded by fabulous indigenous trees overhanging the Olare Orok River. The camp is a traditionally styled safari camp offering a high level of service and cuisine.

The camp is intimate and personable. All tents are very spacious, with a closet, luggage rack, a desk, and a beautiful seating area. Accommodation includes eight comfortable and traditional glamping tents, which can be double, twin, or family tents.

All tents have large, spacious bathrooms with traditional safari bucket showers, hot water, and flush toilets. Each tent comes with a personal room steward to look after you during your stay.

Speke’s Camp is a 10-minute game drive from the main reserve. It is designed with privacy and nature in mind.

Apart from arguably some of the best game viewing in the world, Speke’s Camp offers a comfortable and pleasant base for exploring the Mara. Guests can enjoy wonderful sundowners, picnics, and bush breakfasts while on game drives in this fabulous wildlife location. Evening meals feature fine dining with a three-course meal under the stars, while lunches offer various vegetarian dishes made with fresh produce grown onsite. Breakfast is a full English spread accompanied by seasonal fruits.

Safari trails are designed to offer clients the opportunity to experience two very different styles of safari in a single holiday. Guests can first enjoy traditional game viewing in a vehicle and then embark on safari trails for "slow travel." Slow travel allows for a deeper connection to the surroundings, offering a hands-on experience of the landscape, climate, way of life, and culture.

This approach helps uncover hidden pockets of the surroundings, showcasing new and exciting places far off the beaten track—no queues, no entrance fees, and no crowds—just you and the African wilderness. Resident guides are eager to share their customs and culture, teaching visitors how they read the landscape and recounting the stories of their forefathers.

The safari trails include three nights at Speke’s Camp in the Maasai Mara, where expert guides showcase arguably some of the best game viewing in the world by vehicle. From there, the next leg of the journey begins.

It’s time to stretch your legs and leave the vehicle behind. At this point, you embark on a three-night trail through some of the most remote parts of Kenya. Walking through the Kenyan bush is an unparalleled experience, evoking an intimate connection to the landscape and its history. After all, Africa’s oldest human remains, dating back seven million years, were found in Kenya.
