The Details
Tawana sits in the south-eastern sector of Moremi Game Reserve on the perennial Gomoti River, part of a 5,000 square kilometre sweep of Okavango wilderness. The Chitabe and Sandibe concession lies to the west, with Chitabe Camp about 8 miles away. The setting is one of towering trees, open floodplains and the kind of quiet that only serious wild country produces.
The camp takes its name from the BaTawana royal lineage, and the curated library in the main area carries reference work on both the tribe and the reserve itself. Guests reach camp via direct flights from Cape Town or Johannesburg to Maun, then a helicopter transfer to camp or a light aircraft hop to Santawani airstrip followed by a road transfer and game drive.
Accommodation
Eight private suites sit raised on decks under enormous ebony trees, allowing wildlife to move freely beneath. Five are standard suites and three are family suites. Each has a private plunge pool, outdoor sala, minibar and environmentally friendly air-conditioning over the bed. Views stretch across the Gomoti River and its floodplains.
Dining
Meals are plated rather than buffet, taken under thatch, in dappled shade or beneath the stars. The kitchen draws on a walk-in wine cellar and a wood-fired pizza oven. Dietary requirements should be shared ahead of arrival.
Activities
Morning and afternoon game drives work the Moremi landscape in open vehicles seating a maximum of seven, with the option of a private vehicle. The predator density here is high: wild dog, leopard and lion feature alongside a broader cast of plains game. Birders have more than 400 species to track. Boating on the Gomoti runs when water levels allow, and scenic helicopter flights over the Delta can be arranged at additional cost. Back in camp, there is a 16-metre lap pool, a gym, in-room weights and yoga mats, and spa and wellness treatments delivered in the privacy of your own suite.
Facilities
The main area holds an elegant lounge, indoor and outdoor dining, a well-stocked curio shop and the reference library. An outdoor lounge, firepit and deck face the river for quieter stretches of the day. The camp runs on 100% solar power, with 24-hour electricity in the suites supporting both the over-bed air-conditioning and a fan.

"Booked our trip for Capetown, Okavango delta and Victoria falls with Leigh-Ann was seamless. We’ve already had our amazing time in Capetown and now enjoying the beautiful camp Moremi very much even in the rain, we look forward to what Victoria falls has to offer later."
