The Claremont Boutique Hotel
About the lodge
An overview of The Claremont Boutique Hotel.
In 1928, English entrepreneur Frederick Henry Dumas Man commissioned Magdalena Gertrude Sauer, one of South Africa’s first female architects, to design a Cape Town residence that blended European refinement with Cape heritage. The result was “The Andros”, a stately Cape Dutch Revival manor whose gables, sash windows, and timber floors reflected the spirit of its time.Nearly a century later, this residence has been reimagined as The Claremont Boutique Hotel, a 15-room hideaway in the leafy suburb of Claremont. Now part of the Sabi Sabi Collection, it carries forward a legacy of heritage, authenticity, and warm South African hospitality. Importantly, it also marks the Collection’s first expansion beyond the bushveld, extending its philosophy of place and empathy from the Sabi Sabi Lodges in the Kruger area to Cape Town. Perfectly positioned beneath the famed Table Mountain, and close to the Constantia Winelands and the vibrant Atlantic Seaboard, The Claremont creates a seamless city-and-safari journey.

The Details
Classic Rooms
With just four Classic Rooms, intimacy is key. Set in the Manor House or around the gardens, each room tells its own story through original architectural details and considered décor — from William Morris prints to floral inspirations drawn from the gardens outside. Queen-sized beds, en-suite bathrooms, and thoughtful touches ensure comfort, while windows frame views of the gardens, Newlands Forest or Table Mountain.
Deluxe Rooms
Ten Deluxe Rooms offer generous space and homely ease, making them perfect for longer stays. Located either in the Manor House or around the garden pool — a tranquil shared space shaded by old trees — these rooms feature king-sized beds, full en-suite bathrooms with bath and shower, and separate lounge areas for reading, relaxing, or entertaining. Outdoor terraces open onto landscaped gardens or the pool courtyard, while select rooms include fireplaces for added atmosphere. Each is layered with colour, texture, and heritage accents, creating a refined but welcoming retreat.
Sauer Villa
Named for Magda Sauer, the visionary architect behind the original manor, the Sauer Villa is The Claremont’s most exclusive offering. With private access, a separate lounge and fireplace, garden views, and its own verandah, the villa feels like a true home away from home. Décor pays tribute to Sauer’s work in Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap, with rich tones and layered textures echoing the district’s vibrancy. Complete with a king-sized bed, walk-in wardrobes, a freestanding bath, and a private pool and garden, the Villa combines privacy, indulgence, and history — ideal for families, couples, or extended stays.
The Safari Room & Sun Lounge
The Safari Room, a library and lounge space, is lined with books, artefacts and design details that nod to the bushveld, creating a quiet corner for reading or conversation. It acts as a bridge between the Sabi Sabi Lodges and the Cape, carrying forward the atmosphere of safari storytelling into the city, with Table Mountain often visible in the backdrop beyond Claremont’s leafy avenues.
The Sun Lounge is a light-drenched space that opens onto the gardens. With sun filtering through sash windows and views of the Plane tree, it is the heart of slow afternoons, tea service, or simply enjoying the hotel’s calm ambience.
Guests may also enjoy an on-site spa and sauna, with treatments available on request — bringing wellness and relaxation into your experience.
Dining at The Claremont
Dining is guided by provenance and seasonality. At The Veld & Vine Bistro, Western Cape flavours meet Mediterranean ease in unfussy, flavourful dishes — line-caught seafood, fynbos-raised meats, and produce from nearby farms. The Koffiehuis is the social heart, offering carefully brewed artisanal coffee and an all-day high tea steeped in tradition. As evening falls, the 1928 Craft Bar invites conversation over small-batch gins, fine Constantia Valley wines, and classic cocktails in a setting that balances heritage with contemporary flair.
Whether as a gentle pause before or after safari, or a Cape sojourn of its own, The Claremont completes the Sabi Sabi journey — from bushveld to city, heritage to hospitality, memory to home.
