The Details
Tintswalo Waterberg sits inside the Welgevonden Game Reserve in Limpopo, a private reserve carved out of the Waterberg biosphere. The reserve caps the number of vehicles allowed at any sighting and has never permitted hunting, so animals move without pressure and sightings tend to be unhurried and close.
The lodge belongs to the family-owned Tintswalo Collection, which runs a small group of properties across Southern Africa. Waterberg leans into the family end of that portfolio, with suites named after birds of the region and a design language that stays grounded rather than showy.
Accommodation
Guests choose between family suites and couples' suites. Family options include the Kingfisher and Eagle suites, both configured for parents travelling with children. Couples tend towards the Crested Barbet suite or the Owl Honeymoon Suite, which is set up for two. Each suite opens onto the surrounding bush and has its own private space away from the main lodge.
Game Drives
Two game drives run each day, morning and afternoon, in open safari vehicles with a guide. Welgevonden holds the Big Five along with more than 50 other mammal species, and the strict cap on vehicle numbers means guests rarely share a sighting with more than one or two other cars. Birders do well here, with nearly 300 species recorded across the reserve.
Dining
Rates are full board, so breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included, along with house drinks. Meals move between the main lodge dining area and outdoor settings depending on the day, and the kitchen caters for children and dietary requests on notice.
