The Details
Tsowa sits on a small forested island in the Zambezi River, upstream of Victoria Falls and within Zambezi National Park. The camp is fringed by riverine forest, with a soft sand path leading inland to a cluster of century-old baobabs. Guests arrive by closed vehicle to a private park entrance, transfer by open 4x4 to the river's edge, then cross by boat to the island.
The camp takes a pioneer-inspired approach, tented and low-key, with a fire-pit deck cantilevered over the river. Mornings and late afternoons bring golden light through the forest canopy, and the reflection of the sunset over Zambezi National Park draws game to the far bank to drink. Resident Pel's Fishing Owl calls at dawn, hyena and lion at night.
Accommodation
There are two tent categories: River View Safari Tents and River Deck Safari Tents. Each is furnished under canvas with king beds, indoor and outdoor showers, and private decks facing the water. Interiors take an organic, understated approach, designed to blend into the island setting.
Dining
Meals are taken in the main lounge and dining area or outside on the river-facing deck. The kitchen turns out a full breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, with wines and drinks included. Guests have consistently singled out the food and the pairing with the setting as a highlight of the stay.
Activities
Two activities a day are included in the rate. Options run to game drives in Zambezi National Park, sundowner river cruises, canoeing safaris on the Zambezi, birding, guided island walks and fishing. Day trips to Victoria Falls and excursions to Chobe are offered as optional extras.
Spa
A small spa on the island offers massages and treatments, bookable through the camp manager during your stay.

"Booked an 11-day tour starting and finishing in Johannesburg and including Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta. The service from Cearl was very professional with numerous options discussed before settling on the final version. Prices seemed to be very reasonable."
