The Details

Location

Verney's Camp is tucked into the southeastern reaches of Hwange National Park on a private concession that other park visitors cannot access. The camp looks out over a wide open floodplain, with mopane and teak forests behind the tents and a productive waterhole, Verney's Pan, drawing animals in close.

Hwange is Zimbabwe's largest park and holds some of the biggest elephant populations on the continent. Buffalo, giraffe, zebra, roan antelope and plains game move through the concession in large numbers, and the predator pressure that follows them includes lion, leopard and painted dogs.

Rooms

The camp has ten canvas tents in total: eight double tents and two family tents, taking a maximum of 24 guests. The design leans on the look of old-school safari canvas, with running hot and cold water, flush toilets and electricity inside each tent. Each tent has its own view onto the floodplain.

Dining

Meals are prepared by the camp's chefs and served in the oversized tented dining and social area, or outside under the trees. The food is wholesome and gourmet in style, matched with local and international wines, beers and spirits. The social deck doubles as the camp's main gathering point, with a bar, lounges and fire pits.

Activities

Game drives run in open 4x4 vehicles across the private concession, with guides who know the resident predators and herd movements. Night drives use a spotlight to pick up leopard, lion and smaller nocturnal species, which is not possible inside the main park. Guided walking safaris and birding outings are also on offer, and the waterhole in front of camp means guests often watch the game without leaving the deck.

Knows Verney's Camp backwards. Your direct contact from first enquiry to the day you come home.

"My husband and I had the trip of a lifetime visiting South Africa; Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe; and a day trip the Chobe National Park in Botswana. Our agent, Darren Robertson, and his colleagues were exceptional with everything from planning and budgeting to execution. Darren was very responsive before & during the trip. He sent us itinerary reminders for flights, and just let us know he was available for any question or situation. I highly recommend safari.com & especially Darren. Thank you for a memorable and exciting adventure!"
