The Details
Chobe Safari Lodge sits on the banks of the Chobe River in Kasane, right next to the entrance of Chobe National Park. The park is known as the elephant capital of the world, with a population estimated at around 34,000, and the riverfront concentration of game makes the area one of the most reliable big game destinations in Botswana.
The lodge opened in 1959 as the Chobe River Hotel, making it the country's oldest safari property. It has grown over the decades into a sizeable village-style estate spread across landscaped riverfront grounds, with multiple room categories, four dining venues, three bars, two pools and a spa, alongside an elephant interpretation centre, a craft centre and a curated Explorers Lounge.
Accommodation
Accommodation is grouped into clusters across the property. Luxury rooms comprise 46 Safari Rooms and 38 Bush Rooms set back from the river overlooking a waterhole, plus 15 River Rooms and 8 Rondavels with Chobe River views. All rooms offer king or twin configuration, private balconies, air-conditioning, ceiling fans, mini-bar fridges, tea and coffee facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi.
For larger parties, four Bush Suites and two River Suites sleep couples and families with an additional bathroom and complimentary mini-bar stocking. New for the 2026/2027 season, two Explorer Suites offer two-bedroom duplex layouts with a master suite, a second en-suite bedroom, a lounge, balcony and guest toilet. A shaded campsite with shared ablutions is available for self-drive guests.
Game Drives
Game drives enter Chobe National Park from the lodge with departures at 6am, 8am and 3pm. Guests can join shared open vehicles on the standard morning or afternoon drive, upgrade to a private vehicle, or book a half-day or full-day drive that ventures into the lesser-visited regions of the park with a packed picnic lunch. Elephants, buffalo, hippo, crocodile, lion and leopard are all regularly recorded along the Chobe riverfront.
Boat Safaris
The Chobe River cruise is the lodge's signature activity. Spacious double-decker boats run morning and sunset cruises into the national park from the lodge jetty. Two dedicated photographic boats seat eight guests each, with low-angle hulls, 360-degree revolving chairs, adjustable gimbal rigs and specialist photography guides for serious image-makers. Tiger fishing trips run on the Chobe River and up the Kasai Channel of the Zambezi, with an ethical catch-and-release policy.
Spa
The Chobe Spa is tucked into a quiet corner of the lodge and offers massages, facials, manicures and pedicures. A 30-minute head and shoulder treatment is included as one of the inclusive activity choices; other treatments are booked and paid for separately.
Dining
Four dining venues run across the property. The Riverside Restaurant serves breakfast and dinner from live cooking stations with a climate-controlled salad bar. The Cattle Post is an a la carte steakhouse showcasing Botswana beef with a premium wine list and is open daily for dinner by reservation. The Sedudu Outdoor Dining Experience runs seasonally under the stars next to Sedudu Bar, with a menu built around traditional Botswana cuisine. A three-course dinner cruise on the Chobe River runs for groups of 12 or more, weather permitting.
Light lunches are served by the two pools from Monkey Bar and Hunters Pub between 10am and 4pm, with complimentary high tea at the Pavilion from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. The Sedudu Sunset Bar is the lodge's riverfront sundowner spot.

"Booked an 11-day tour starting and finishing in Johannesburg and including Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta. The service from Cearl was very professional with numerous options discussed before settling on the final version. Prices seemed to be very reasonable."
