About the lodge

An overview of Feline Fields Lodge.

Feline Fields Lodge sits in a remote corner of Botswana's Kalahari, a private desert retreat where guests divide their days between game drives, horseback rides through the dunes, bushman walks with the San and long afternoons by a saltwater pool. The villas are spacious and family-friendly, the activities flexible and the setting genuinely unlike anywhere else in the country.

  • Spacious villas, several with private heated plunge pools and teak decks
  • Saltwater swimming pool, tennis court, mountain bikes and boules in the desert
  • Cultural walks and evenings with the local San bushmen
  • Optional helicopter transfers connecting the Kalahari with the Okavango Delta

You Should Know

  • Children of all ages are welcomed, with a dedicated Family Villa offering a separate room for kids
  • The lodge is genuinely remote, expect limited mobile signal and a long road transfer or charter flight from Maun

The Details

Feline Fields Lodge sits in a vast, little-visited corner of Botswana's Kalahari, a landscape of pans, grasslands and endless desert horizons. The setting feels worlds away from the better-known camps of the Okavango, and that is the point. Guests come here for solitude, big skies and a different rhythm of safari.

The lodge pairs naturally with Feline Fields Vintage Camp on the Khwai River, and many guests combine the two for a contrast between water and desert. Helicopter transfers between the Delta and the Kalahari turn the journey itself into part of the experience.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in a small number of generously sized villas designed for comfort and privacy. The Family Villa is a standout, with a private heated swimming pool, a wraparound teak deck and a separate room for children, giving families their own self-contained space within the lodge. Interiors are bright and contemporary, with the desert framed through every window.

Activities

The Kalahari is not a traditional Big Five destination, so the lodge focuses on a broader range of experiences. Game drives explore the surrounding desert and its specially adapted wildlife, while horseback rides at sunrise take guests across the dunes at a different pace. Mountain biking, tennis, boules and time at the saltwater pool fill the quieter hours.

Cultural encounters with the San bushmen are a defining part of a stay, with morning walks learning about desert survival skills and evenings spent around the fire. Activities run flexibly through the day rather than on a fixed schedule, so guests can choose how full or how slow they want the day to feel.

Dining

Meals at the lodge are a highlight, with a strong kitchen producing varied, beautifully presented dishes despite the remoteness of the location. Dining moves around the property depending on the mood and the weather, from poolside lunches to long evening tables under the desert stars.

"Jolene was simply extraordinary. She put together what became an absolutely incredible African trip for us in the space of barely three weeks, and from the outset her responsiveness, knowledge and genuine enthusiasm were exceptional. Nothing was ever too much trouble, responses were almost immediate, and she very quickly understood exactly what we were looking for, our expectations and the way we like to travel. More than simply being an expert at what she does, Jolene genuinely cared about making the trip special for us, and that came through in every aspect of her planning. What particularly impressed us was the flexibility with which she brought everything together. We already had some of our own arrangements in place, including international flights and staying with friends in Cape Town, but Jolene seamlessly incorporated those into the overall itinerary and still organised all the surrounding logistics and transfers. The safari component she designed was outstanding, taking us through Kruger, Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta, before finishing in Cape Town and the Stellenbosch wine region. Every part flowed beautifully and the lodges, experiences and logistics were exceptional. Just as importantly, Jolene stayed in contact throughout the trip at all the key moments, which made travelling so much easier. She would check us in for our internal flights and send through the boarding passes, confirm transfers the day before each pick-up, and make sure everything was in place before we ever had to think about it. That attention to detail, and the fact that she was always one step ahead, removed so much of the usual travel stress and allowed us simply to enjoy the trip. It was genuinely the trip of a lifetime, put together in an extraordinarily short timeframe, and Jolene deserves enormous credit for making it all happen. We could not recommend her highly enough."
