The Detail

Garonga Safari Camp is located in the private and pristine Makalali Nature Reserve, only 90 minutes from the Kruger National Park's Phalaborwa Gate. Garonga is a classic luxury tented camp that prides itself on offering a "home away from home" ambiance, along with exceptional service and an unforgettable Big Five wildlife experience.

Garonga boasts six Luxury Tents that are built on raised platforms and are a gorgeous blend of stone and canvas. Each tent features large beds draped with mosquito netting, an en-suite bathroom with double vanities, a bathtub, and an outdoor shower. Additional features include window bench seating, a writing desk, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a deck complete with a hammock, comfortable patio furniture, and views of the bushveld.

The camp facilities include a dining area, bar, massage sala, boma, curio shop, and a swimming pool.

The 22,000-hectare Makalali Nature Reserve is home to a rich diversity of animals, including the Big Five, cheetah, hippo, zebra, giraffe, wild dog, hyena, wildebeest, and a variety of antelope species. Makalali also boasts over 200 bird species, with migratory birds present from November to April.

Activities offered at the camp or nearby include morning and evening open-vehicle game drives led by professional guides, guided bush walks that provide up-close encounters with the fauna, flora, and smaller wondrous creatures of the African bush. Guests can also enjoy microlight flights over the Makalali Conservancy, an outdoor bush bath experience, and sleep-out experiences on a viewing deck that overlooks an active waterhole.
