The Details

Location

Gomoti Plains sits in concession NG32, a large community-run area on the south-eastern fringe of the Okavango Delta, around 11 miles south-east of Chitabe. The camp lines one of the smaller flood plains of the Gomoti River system, with palm-studded islands and seasonal channels running alongside the tents.

Being private rather than national park land, the concession allows night drives and off-road traversing, which broadens what guests see compared to public reserves.

Accommodation

The camp has eight luxury canvas tents and two two-bedroom family tents, each family unit with its own two bathrooms, sleeping up to 24 guests in total. Tents follow the Machaba signature style with raised decks, en-suite bathrooms and views over the flood plain. Fans, in-room Wi-Fi, safes and 240V plug points are standard, with a bath in one room and in-room spa treatments available.

Game Drives

Game drives run in open 4x4 vehicles with a maximum of six guests per vehicle, on a typical morning and afternoon schedule. The private concession status permits both night drives and off-road following of sightings, which means guests can stay with predators on the move rather than turning back at a road.

Wildlife in the area includes wild dog (with denning sites in season), large lion prides, big buffalo herds and regular leopard and cheetah sightings, alongside elephant, giraffe and a broad range of plains game.

Dining

Meals are taken in the oversized tented main area, which doubles as the bar and lounge, or outside around the fire pits and on the deck overlooking the flood plain. The kitchen runs a single seasonal menu with wholesome, chef-prepared cooking and a choice of local and international wines, beers and spirits. A typical day begins with a continental breakfast before the morning activity, brunch on return to camp, afternoon tea, and dinner after the evening drive.
