The Detail
Remote and scenically splendid, the 150,000-acre Jao Concession embodies all the magic and mystique of Botswana, with vegetation that varies from permanent swamps to dry land. In the east, the Jao Flats boast water channels that cut their way through the papyrus and reed beds, providing the perfect environment for wildlife. Beautiful lush palm islands dot the water.
The camp boasts eight spacious tents and one family tent that are positioned in the shade of indigenous trees. Each tent features an en-suite bathroom with double vanities, indoor and outdoor showers, a lounge area, mosquito netting, fan, minibar, hairdryer, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a verandah with a sala. There are six twin-bedded tents and two king-sized bedded tents.
The family tent consists of two bedrooms with two three-quarter beds in each bedroom, a main en-suite bathroom with a bathtub and both indoor and outdoor showers, a second en-suite bathroom with an indoor shower only, individual entrances, and a shared deck.
The camp facilities include a dining area, plunge pool, library, wine cellar, gym, spa, boma, complimentary laundry service, and Wi-Fi.
Jao’s position, nestled among waterways and lagoons yet close to dry Kalahari woodland, allows you to enjoy both water and land experiences depending on the time of year. Activities available include mokoro excursions, boating safaris, morning and evening game drives, picnics, fishing, and spa treatments at Jao Spa.
A raised hide located about 20 minutes from camp is a great place to observe the comings and goings of wildlife. The hide can also be used for romantic sleep-outs for a maximum of two people.
During the inundation from April to September, lechwe are plentiful, and lions follow. Elephant numbers peak from August to November. Plains game and leopard sightings are excellent. Hunda Island offers a wide variety of wildlife, and birdlife viewing is particularly exceptional during the summer months.
Jao Camp is ideal for solo explorers, couples, and families looking for a luxury safari experience.

Where the rates above show a saving, it comes from a stay-pay or long-stay offer. Honeymoon and family offers are applied by your safari specialist when preparing your quote.
Stay & Pay
A Jao Journey: stay four consecutive nights at Jao Camp and pay for three, with the complimentary night being the lowest-rated of the stay. The offer runs for travel until 5 January 2027 and again from 6 January 2027 to 5 January 2028, on new bookings only and subject to availability, with blackout dates possible in Peak season. The mandatory Jao Community and Conservation Trust contribution remains payable per person on all nights, and the offer may be combined with the no single supplement waiver but not with the honeymoon offer.
Honeymoon
Honeymoon couples receive 50 per cent off the nightly accommodation rate for one spouse, valid for travel until 5 January 2027 and again from 6 January 2027 to 5 January 2028. The marriage must have taken place within 12 months of travel and proof of marriage is required at the time of reservation. The offer excludes the Jao Camp Villas, the mandatory conservation levy still applies per person per night, and it cannot be combined with the stay-pay offer; for travel from 6 January 2027 it also cannot be combined with the no single supplement waiver.
Long stay
Stays of six nights or more across Wilderness camps qualify for a 5 per cent long-stay reduction, applied to the per person per night accommodation element only. The reduction does not apply to private vehicles, flights, transfers or sightseeing, and is not available for travel from 1 June to 31 October or from 20 December to 5 January.
Family
Children aged 6 to 15 sharing a suite or room with an adult are charged at 50 per cent of the adult rate, and up to two children aged 6 to 15 stay free of charge within the base occupancy of four adults in a Jao Villa. Guests aged 16 and over pay adult rates in a separate room, the mandatory conservation levy applies per night from the age of six, and families with children of 12 and younger must book private activities for the full duration of their stay.

"Booked an 11-day tour starting and finishing in Johannesburg and including Victoria Falls, Chobe and the Okavango Delta. The service from Cearl was very professional with numerous options discussed before settling on the final version. Prices seemed to be very reasonable."
