About the lodge

An overview of Kiri Camp.

Kiri Camp sits on a private island in the NG32 concession of the Okavango Delta, raised on wooden decks above the Kiri floodplains beneath a canopy of ebony trees. Ten canvas tents, water and land activities, and the freedom of a private concession make it a strong base for spotting lion, buffalo and wild dog away from the busier parts of the delta.

Highlights

  • Private NG32 concession with off-road driving, night drives and armed walking safaris
  • Combination of game drives, motorboat cruises and mokoro trips when water levels allow
  • Known for lion and buffalo interactions and rare wild dog sightings
  • Ten canvas tents raised on wooden decks under an ebony forest, overlooking the Kiri floodplains
  • Only a five-minute transfer from Kiri Waka airstrip

You Should Know

  • Children of all ages welcome; under-6s require a private vehicle to be booked
  • Walking safaris from age 16, mokoro trips from age 12
  • Mokoro and boating are seasonal and water-dependent, typically April to October
  • Fly-in access only, via Kiri Waka airstrip
  • Tents have ceiling fans rather than air-conditioning

The Details

Location

Kiri Camp lies on an island in the Kiri River system within the NG32 community concession, between the Boro and Kiri rivers and around 12 miles south-west of Chief's Island in the Okavango Delta. The camp is named after the Kiri channel that flows past the island.

Because NG32 is a private concession, the camp can offer off-road driving, night drives and guided walking safaris that are not permitted inside the public reserves. The area is known for diverse plains game, large prides of lion, big buffalo herds and good numbers of wild dog, with regular leopard and cheetah sightings.

Accommodation

The camp has ten canvas tents in total: eight luxury double tents with a single bathroom, plus two family units of two bedrooms with two bathrooms each, giving a maximum of 24 guests. Tents are raised on elevated wooden decks set into a slope, with sweeping views over the floodplain and the surrounding ebony forest.

Tents are built from wood, canvas and reeds, with running hot and cold water, flush toilets, bathtubs in every room, ceiling fans, hairdryers and 240V plug points. In-room Wi-Fi is available.

Activities

Game drives use open vehicles seating up to six guests, with private vehicles available on request. The concession allows off-road driving and night drives so guests can stay with predator sightings after dark. Guided walking safaris explore the surrounding islands with armed Machaba guides.

When water levels are high, motorboat cruises through the channels and mokoro trips through the water lilies add a quieter water-level perspective on the wildlife. Birding, photography and catch-and-release fishing on request complete the activity offering.

Dining

Meals are served in the tented dining area at the heart of camp or al fresco under the trees, with a swimming pool and communal lounge alongside. Cuisine is wholesome and gourmet-inspired, paired with local and international wines and spirits. Kosher meals are available on request.
