The Details

Location

Le Jadis sits on a sheltered cove at Baie aux Tortues, or Turtle Bay, in Balaclava on the north-west coast of Mauritius. The Dutch settled here in 1646, drawn by its year-round sheltered position, and the resort takes its name from the French word for 'once upon a time', a nod to the layered history of the site.

The property lies next to the Balaclava-Turtle Bay Marine Park, one of only two national marine parks in Mauritius, and is positioned for sublime sunsets over the Indian Ocean. Grand Baie and the Mont Choisy golf estate are about twenty minutes away, with the international airport around 45 minutes by road.

Accommodation centres on spacious luxury pool suites featuring heated private infinity pools, handcrafted stone tubs, private hammams and vast timber terraces with ocean views. Interiors by Martin Branner emphasise natural materials, refined detailing and a sense of calm.

For families and groups travelling together, the Imperial Beach Villa offers one to four bedrooms with a large swimming pool, jet pool, indoor and outdoor living and dining areas, a fully equipped kitchen and direct sea views from every space. A dedicated butler looks after guests throughout their stay.

Dining

Chefs work across authentic Mauritian Creole, Asian fusion and French and European cuisine, served in alfresco settings with discreet boutique service. Guests can dine at the ocean-facing restaurant, beside the sandy pool with its swim-up bar, or at intimate candle-lit settings on the beach.

A dedicated Wellness Cuisine menu, including a guilt-free Wellness Minibar, complements the spa programme for guests on a retreat.

Activities

Days are built around the beach, the pools and the spa. Immersive Wellness Retreats begin with a private consultation followed by targeted spa massages, hydrotherapy, thermotherapy, beauty treatments, Ayurveda, and holistic and fitness activities. The spa team are graduates of the Banyan Tree Spa Academy.

Beyond the resort, guests can join a bespoke catamaran cruise into the turquoise waters around neighbouring islets, with gourmet dining and a sunset return. The Balaclava-Turtle Bay Marine Park on the doorstep is ideal for snorkelling, and the property also hosts romantic sunset cruises, beach weddings and private events.
