The Details
Little Machaba is situated in the game-rich Khwai area. The Khwai Concession is a 180,000-hectare reserve located in the northeastern Okavango, adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve. Little Machaba is on the same island as Machaba Main Camp but is run separately. The camp is built in the classic 1950s style, featuring luxury safari tents with en-suite bathrooms and living areas—not forgetting the romantic outdoor showers. All the tents are situated on decks, with pathways meandering between large riverine trees. The main dining and bar areas are also located on wooden decks overlooking a large floodplain.
Game Drives: Game drives are conducted in the mornings and afternoons/evenings at the camp. They typically last about three hours and take place along the river systems and floodplains surrounding the camp. The wildlife in the area is prolific, offering good chances of spotting some of the larger predators, herds of elephants and buffalo, and the many plains animals that inhabit the region. Night drives are conducted in the early evening, offering a chance to see smaller, more nocturnal animals using spotlights.
Walking Safaris: Walking safaris are usually conducted in the morning with armed guides. The walks are leisurely, offering time to observe the smaller details of the bush that are often missed during game drives. These walks are weather-dependent and also depend on the condition of the terrain.
Mokoro Safaris: Mokoro safaris are available year-round, depending on water levels. This activity uses dugout canoes poled by experienced guides in the shallower waters of the Okavango Delta. It’s a peaceful and tranquil way to explore the waterways. These excursions typically take place in the mornings, but longer day trips can also be arranged. You’ll have the chance to explore the islands around the camp, leaving you rested and rejuvenated.
