The Detail

Chisomo Safari Camp overlooks the Makhutsi River within the private Karongwe Game Reserve in Limpopo, South Africa. The camp prides itself on offering an unrivaled African safari experience, where the warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and exceptional cuisine complement the excellent Big Five game viewing.

Chisomo boasts twenty-two luxury tented suites that are built from thatch and canvas and feature simplistic furnishings. Each tent includes two three-quarter beds or one four-poster double bed draped with mosquito netting. Additional amenities include an en-suite bathroom with a shower, a hairdryer, an in-room safe, a fan, a minibar, tea and coffee-making facilities, a writing desk or dressing table, and a deck with comfortable chairs offering views of the Makhutsi River, which is frequently visited by wildlife.

The camp facilities include a lounge, dining area, bar, library, spa, complimentary internet access, and a swimming pool.

Boasting over 9,000 hectares of pristine African bushveld, Chisomo is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant), as well as an abundance of other species. The magnificent setting provides perfect photographic opportunities, from enjoying the view of the Lowveld’s hills and lush vegetation to spotting any of the 365 different bird species. Morning and afternoon game drives are conducted with qualified game rangers and Shangaan trackers, who share their vast experience of the African bush and even offer the opportunity to view cheetahs on foot.

Chisomo Safari Camp is ideal for solo explorers, couples, and families looking for a rewarding safari experience.

Child rates

Children 0–2: complimentary (reserve fees apply). Children 3–11: 50% of adult tariff when sharing a family room/unit with adults. Children 12+: full adult tariff. No triple rooms.

Notable exceptions

  • Chisomo welcomes children of all ages to stay. Game drives: per 2027 Karongwe portfolio T&Cs, children under 4 are not permitted on drives; children aged 4–5 may join at the discretion of lodge management after an on-site evaluation, or via a private vehicle (subject to availability, extra cost); children 6+ may join scheduled drives. Older 2026 lodge rate sheets set the cut-off at under-6 unless approved by Lodge Management on-site or by Directors in advance — newer portfolio T&Cs take precedence. Bush walks remain strictly 16+. No triple rooms. Sister-camp note: Kuname Main Lodge has no under-12s and Becks Safari Lodge has no under-6s, but those restrictions do not apply at Chisomo.
