Jacana Camp is a remote camp situated in the 150 000 acre private Jao Concession which forms part of the world-renowned Okavango Delta. This region encompasses a vegetation of permanent swamps and dry land which offers the perfect sanctuary for wildlife.
Jacana Camp has five en-suite Meru-style Tents, including a family tent, built on raised wooden decks to offer panoramic views of the Okavango Delta. Four of the tents are twin bedded and one is king-size. Each tent features an en-suite bathroom with double vanities and both indoor and outdoor showers, mosquito netting, a sitting area, in-room safe, fan, and tea and coffee making facilities.
The camp facilities include a dining area, bar, lounge area, and a swimming pool.
Typically in the summer months when the water levels are lower, guests can enjoy game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers. Game drives afford guests the opportunity of seeing wildlife such as elephant, zebra, various antelope and predators.
Unique to Botswana is mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) excursions that afford guests the opportunity of gliding along the waterways as they come across smaller wondrous creatures of the bush, along with a number of bird species and sightings of hippo and crocodiles.
Trips in 12-seater and 7-seater boats in the channels and waterways further away afford guests fantastic game viewing.
Fishing is seasonal and on a catch and release basis only. The lodge offers guests spinner rods and a small range of lures. Fly fishing equipment to be supplied by guest if required.
Beautiful lush palm islands dot the water. Around the Jao Flats, spectacular herds of red lechwe are followed by predators, namely lion and leopard. Other game includes tsessebe, elephant, hippo and crocodile. Sitatunga are seen occasionally, and sightings of spotted-necked otter are regular. Birding is exceptional in the Jao Concession, especially during the summer months. Bird species likely to be seen on safari include the Vulnerable wattled crane, slaty egret, rosy-throated longclaw, Pel’s fishing-owl, and lesser jacana seen in the wetter areas. Other exciting species include swamp nightjar and brown firefinch.

Pascal John quickly proved his professionalism as well as his in-depth and experienced knowledge of South Africa safaris. He demonstrated the ability to rapidly understand what I was looking for out of a safari trip and how to make that happen. He added real value to the process with his connections to lodging reservations at various lodges and arranged for an itinerary that is not possible to accomplish by oneself on the internet alone. For example, he was able to negotiate away for me a single supplement. He added immediate value and quickly/painlessly everything came together.
