Jacana Camp is a remote camp situated in the 150 000 acre private Jao Concession which forms part of the world-renowned Okavango Delta. This region encompasses a vegetation of permanent swamps and dry land which offers the perfect sanctuary for wildlife.
Jacana Camp features five en-suite Meru-style tents, including a family tent, built on raised wooden decks to provide panoramic views of the Okavango Delta. Four of the tents have twin beds, while one is king-size. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with double vanities, indoor and outdoor showers, mosquito netting, a sitting area, an in-room safe, a fan, and tea and coffee-making facilities.
The camp's facilities include a dining area, a bar, a lounge area, and a swimming pool.
During the summer months, when water levels are lower, guests can enjoy game drives in open 4x4 Land Rovers. These drives offer opportunities to see wildlife such as elephant, zebra, various antelope, and predators.
Unique to Botswana are mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) excursions, which allow guests to glide along the waterways and discover smaller creatures of the bush, as well as various bird species, hippos, and crocodiles.
Boat trips in 12-seater and 7-seater vessels through the farther channels and waterways provide exceptional game viewing experiences.
Fishing is seasonal and operates on a catch-and-release basis only. The lodge provides spinner rods and a small selection of lures. Guests are encouraged to bring their own fly-fishing equipment, if needed.
Beautiful, lush palm islands surround the Jao Flats. Spectacular herds of red lechwe often attract predators such as lions and leopards. Other wildlife includes tsessebe, elephant, hippo, and crocodile. Sitatunga are occasionally spotted, and sightings of spotted-necked otters are common. The Jao Concession is also a birding haven, especially in the summer months. Bird species you might see include the Vulnerable wattled crane, slaty egret, rosy-throated longclaw, Pel’s fishing owl, and lesser jacana in the wetter areas. Other notable birds include the swamp nightjar and brown firefinch.
Jacana Camp is perfect for solo explorers, couples, and families seeking a Delta adventure.

Last minute booking
We are living abroad in Australia, heading on a last minute trip to South Africa. We reached out to Safari.com and were allocated Nerine Du Plessis as our consultant. Nerine was so great in helping us to organise this trip with only 5 weeks until departure/arrival in South Africa. Nerine has been incredibly prompt in her responses, articulate in the requirements and easy to communicate with. So far, we can't fault our experience.
