The Details
The historic Oude Werf Hotel was built in 1802 on the site of South Africa's first church, which was destroyed by fire in 1710. The hotel is located in the heart of Stellenbosch, well-known for its vibrant shops, art galleries, stunning museums, and beautiful examples of Cape Dutch architecture, all within walking distance. The luxurious landmark hotel is filled with antiques and decorated in soft tones, creating a warm and welcoming ambiance. Tasteful furnishings, attentive service, gourmet cuisine, and world-class amenities combine to give guests a memorable stay.
Oude Werf has 58 luxurious en-suite bedrooms in three different room types, set across the hotel property. Most are centered on the poolside gardens or within the historic inn-house. Most above-ground rooms have lift access, with some adjacent rooms interconnecting, making them family group-friendly.
All rooms have been extensively renovated or are newly built, incorporating the latest interior fittings. Standard room features include king or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms with luxury amenities, high-speed internet access, tea and coffee-making facilities, an optional minibar, air conditioning, a work desk, and satellite television.
Superior Rooms
The 23 contemporary-styled Superior Rooms are located on all three floors of the hotel, overlooking the shady central garden or quiet vine-covered courtyard. These open-plan style rooms are filled with natural light and include a bedroom, luxurious en-suite with a shower, vanity, and toilet.
Deluxe Rooms
The 12 spacious, high-ceilinged Deluxe Rooms are furnished in rich colors and a comfortable, modern Cape style. They feature king or twin beds, large luxury en-suites with free-standing baths and separate showers, and a Nespresso coffee machine.
Luxury Rooms
The 23 spacious, open-plan Luxury Rooms are located on the ground, first, and second floors of the hotel. These rooms enjoy airy views of the quiet central gardens or courtyards. Each room features a bedroom with a separate en-suite bath, shower, vanity, and toilet, along with a step-out patio or balcony with chairs. These rooms are suited to families, as they include two sets of interconnecting rooms.
Oude Werf offers guests a tranquil space in the center of the vibrant town. The swimming pool sparkles by the manicured gardens, making it a perfect spot for relaxing or sipping sundowners.
Dining
The newly revamped bistro, Liefde, serves classic Cape cuisine with a modern twist. Culinary delights are accompanied by wines from an extensive wine list, sourced from the world-famous wine region.
Conference Facilities
Oude Werf offers conference packages in a well-equipped venue, accommodating up to 40 delegates.
Activities
Guests have the opportunity to explore the Stellenbosch Wine Route. Established in 1971, it’s the oldest wine route in the country. Today, the Stellenbosch Wine Route comprises more than 200 wine and grape producers within the boundaries of the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin classification. Daily wine tastings, cellar tours, and sales are available at most cellars. Many of these venues offer restaurants and picnic facilities. The Vine Hopper provides a convenient hop-on-hop-off service in the Stellenbosch wine area. For those seeking adventure, guided cycle tours through the city and vineyards are also available.

-
Oude Werf is a town hotel in central Stellenbosch, not a safari lodge — so safari-specific fields (game drives, walking safaris, kids' programme, private vehicle) are not applicable. The official site's FAQ confirms baby cots and extra beds are available on request but does not explicitly state babysitting services or a minimum stay age on supplier-owned pages. Third-party OTA listings mention babysitting as a surcharge service and that children of all ages are welcome, but this could not be confirmed on a supplier-owned URL.

"Every part of our safari vacation was absolutely perfect . Jolene was so helpful in putting the pieces together during the planning phase. We stayed 2 days at Kruger Shalati, including one day driving the Panorama route, then 3 nights at Lukimbi Safari Lodge. Both places were amazing and transfers were seamless. Cannot say enough good things about their service and the peace of mind they provide."
