This is the most amazing safari experience and so close to Cape Town. The staff are incredibly friendly and from arrival you feel like royalty! My 9 year old had a fantastic time in this family friendly lodge. We had our own ranger and saw most of the big 5 and so close up! The accommodations were personalised and extremely comfortable. This is a true safari experience, just like Kruger. There are no fences to be seen. The mid game drive snacks/drinks are a treat as are the menus at the lodge. My picky eater even managed to find a favourite at every meal! I am going back at the first opportunity!

My significant other and I were craving a little getaway and really wanted to spoil ourselves but didn't want to travel too far from home. Sanbona was recommended to me and after doing a bit of research I decided to book this. We set out from Cape Town mid morning and arrived there at a very reasonable 13h00 after an easy 3hour drive. The staff were welcoming, with bottled water offered to us at the gate. I expressed my concern about my petrol level (we had left the previous town 43km back with no pumps in site since, and I misjudged my tank) so they suggested I park my car at the Welcome Lounge 13km into the reserve, and they would take us the rest of the way (a further 40km on gravel to Gondwana). Kobie, the manager of Gondwana also later arranged for 5 liters of petrol from their lawnmower supply to be sure I got back to Montagu!!) Arriving at Gondwana, again the staff were very welcoming. We got a hot towel on arrival as well as a sip of juice. After a short tour of the lodge, we were shown our suite - it was HUGE! Modern decor with a hint of rustic. The terrace just as big, stepping right out into the bush (a small electric fence was discovered much later as it's not easily seen but necessary for the animals of course). And the bathroom, just heavenly. The restaurant was waiting for us for lunch. We also got to order our drinks for the afternoon game drive. We were then introduced to Brenda, our guide who took us on a total of 5 drives over the next three days. The game viewing was amazing, including Elephant on our first day. Giraffe, Rhino, Zebra, Kudu, Springbok and various other smaller wildlife awaited us on day two. Lions (white and tawny) and Cheetah's were seen on day three. Brenda was a great guide, with a world of knowledge on fauna and flora. Radio communication between the guides ensured the best possible game viewing. Included in the rate is a full three meals a day (cold breakfast buffet as well as a hot menu, three course lunch and dinner) and 2 game drives per day (one on arrival day and optional one of departure day). There is a small spa on site with a steam room to the guests disposal (FOC). We were properly spoilt and enjoyed every minute of our stay. We would love to go back and can recommend Sanbona to anyone. And a big THANK YOU to all the staff members who contributed to this memorable getaway.

Nous avons eu le bonheur de passer 48 heures en famille dans ce lodge et il restera un de mes plus beaux souvenirs de ce voyage. Personnel au petit soin, restauration fine et délicate, excellent confort, ranger formidable, ... Bref, la perfection !

Stayed for two nights with my little girl, 21 months, husband and my parents. It is a longish drive but it's actually quite exciting as you are already looking out for animals, a few of which you will see even before you check in! The rooms are lovely, beautiful views from bed and bathroom, and the setting overall is spectacular. Service very good, food lovely, and a good choice of wines. The drives were interesting we saw everything apart from the elephants, and I particularly liked the rock art. Roman our guide was very good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and there is a kids room and outside area which our little girl loved (she is too young to do the drives so we took it in turns to stay behind). We all loved it!

We booked one of the most beautiful…
We booked one of the most beautiful trips we've ever had through Safari.com. The service was excellent and uncomplicated. They catered to special requests, booked additional flights, and the accommodation (Simbavati River Lodge) was simply unbelievably beautiful. Our expectations were far exceeded, and we can only recommend Safari.com. We will definitely book our next vacation through Safari.com and recommend it to our friends. Many thanks, Nelia & Catherine!
