Explorer Camp at Shamwari Private Game Reserve offers a unique walking experience ideal for guests looking for an adventurous and authentic option.
Experience the ambiance of a tented bush camp evoking the old safari lore. The camp is located on a plateau, surrounded by one of Shamwari's unique basalt and granite extrusions. This truly magical setting offers breathtaking scenery and rich experiences.
The campsite provides an authentic explorer atmosphere, with tents positioned thoughtfully to ensure privacy while maintaining a close connection to nature. Wild animals are free to traverse the camp area at any time. While all precautions have been taken to ensure safety, this remains an inherent reality of being in the wilderness.
The wilderness bush camp itinerary is a minimum 2-night trail, operational on Tuesday & Wednesday and Friday & Saturday, with an optional third night (Sunday) available on request. The camp operates exclusively from October to April. Each tent is designed to balance comfort with the raw beauty of the wilderness experience.
The walking trails are guided by a qualified, armed walking guide. Distances walked vary daily but can last up to 4 hours. A game-viewing vehicle remains on-site and may be utilized depending on the day's trail. Walks may commence directly from the camp or depart by vehicle to explore another part of the reserve.
We regret that no persons under 16 years of age may participate. Additionally, participants over the age of 65 will be required to present a medical clearance certificate to join the experience.
