You Should Know
Children of all ages are welcome. They will be accommodated on a rollaway bed. Children aged 6 years and over are permitted on game drives at management's discretion. The lodge does not offer babysitting services for guests younger than 6 years of age.
The Detail
Shimungwe Lodge excels in combining subtle luxury with a cozy, welcoming ambiance.
The four semi-detached units are strategically placed to foster intimate gatherings among small groups while ensuring privacy remains paramount. The communal spaces exude a tranquil vibe, with décor inspired by the earthy tones of the surrounding wilderness.
Each suite comprises one bedroom and one bathroom, with modern amenities such as air-conditioning, indoor and outdoor showers, and a private deck offering scenic, uninterrupted bush views.
In this verdant setting, you'll encounter some of Africa's most renowned wildlife and plant life, accompanied by vibrant bird species and intriguing small animals. Anticipate sightings of large herds of buffalo and elephants, the iconic Big Five, Cape hunting dogs, and pangolins during your Shimungwe safari adventure.

Child rates
Children 6–11 yrs: R5,750 pppnpppn. Children 2–5 yrs: R2,875 pppnpppn. Adult sharing with one child pays adult sharing rate plus applicable child rate.
Notable exceptions
- Children of all ages are welcome to stay at Shimungwe Lodge and are accommodated on a roll-away bed in the Standard Suite (max occupancy 2 per suite); no dedicated family unit is offered. Children aged 6 and over may join game drives at management's discretion. Game walks are restricted to guests aged 16 and over. The lodge does not offer babysitting or a kids' programme. Children under 2 are not explicitly priced. A single child aged 6+ sharing a room with two parents triggers an adult single supplement.
