The Detail
Tau Pan is the first safari camp to be built in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and is completely solar-powered. The camp is situated on an established sand ridge overlooking the Tau Pan waterhole and the endless Kalahari horizon.
Tau Pan features 9 beautifully designed thatched units built on raised decks. Each unit includes an en-suite bathroom with an outdoor shower, a lounge area, a fan, an in-room safe, and a verandah offering views of the expansive pan. The family unit has the added convenience of an additional twin bedroom.
The camp's facilities include a swimming pool, open bar, lounge, and dining areas, all arranged around a cozy fireplace.
Activities at Tau Pan include game drives, day trips to well-known locations such as Deception Valley, Sunday, Piper, and Passarge Pans. Guests can also enjoy stargazing, bush brunches on Tau Pan, and guided nature walks with Bushman trackers.
Walking through Africa's wild areas is one of the most rewarding ways to connect with the natural environment. While game drives allow for more extensive animal sightings and closer observations from a safe distance, walking on foot offers a humbling and awe-inspiring perspective. It brings a new appreciation for the smaller details of the ecosystem—plants, insects, tracks, and signs—that are often overlooked from a vehicle. The interpretative skills of your guide will immerse you in a fascinating new world.
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve hosts a wealth of wildlife, including giraffes, elephants, white rhinos, Cape buffalo, hyenas, honey badgers, meerkats, yellow mongooses, warthogs, cheetahs, oryx, desert-adapted springbok, jackals, Red-crested Korhaan, and herds of wildebeest.
Tau Pan Camp is the perfect destination for solo adventurers, couples, and families seeking an authentic safari experience.

Child rates
Children 6–15 inclusive qualify for a Child Rate. Valid only in the Family Tent (max 3) or on an Extra Bed sharing with 2 full-paying adults. A minimum of 2 adult rates is charged when sharing the family tent. Not valid during 5 Rivers Season — children pay full adult price. Adult rates apply from age 16. Proof of age may be requested.
Notable exceptions
- Seasonal carve-out: Tau Pan has NO minimum age during Secret (mid) and Flood (high) seasons — the 2026 rack rates phrase this as "no minimum age shall apply in Nxai Pan or Tau Pan from 1 April – 15 November." The 6-year minimum applies during Green (low) season. On Exclusive Use bookings, children under 6 are accepted, but activity age restrictions still apply for safety. A private vehicle is compulsory for families with children aged 6–11 (under 12). Children under 12 are not permitted on mokoro or walking safaris (and otherwise at the guide's discretion). Persons under 18 must share a tent with an adult. The single family tent (2 sleeping rooms, shared bathroom, plus floating extra bed = 2 adults + 3 children) is allocated first-come-first-served with priority to families with children under 18 and is not bookable as a triple/quad for adults. No cots, highchairs or baby/toddler equipment provided — families must bring their own.

It is listed as a distinct bookable unit (TP_SLEEP_OUT) in Kwando's reservation system, separate from the camp's standard and family tents.
