You Should Know
- Children of all ages are welcome at the lodge.
- Children aged 0-5 years stay for free when sharing with two adults. This includes accommodation, meals, and safaris.
- Children aged 12 years and older are considered adults and will be accommodated in their own rooms. The applicable adult rate will apply.
- All children are permitted on game drives at management's discretion; however, children under 6 years old are not permitted to view big cats (e.g., lions and leopards).
The Detail
Exuding elegance and understated luxury, Mabula Game Lodge offers an extraordinary encounter with South Africa’s bushveld. Located just a two-hour drive from Johannesburg in the malaria-free Waterberg region of Limpopo Province, the lodge is set amidst diverse landscapes, including grassland plains and rocky outcrops, which create an ideal habitat for the free-roaming Big Five.
Distinctly African in style, Mabula Game Lodge features comfortable suites with luxurious finishes. The soft, neutral bushveld colors are complemented by large windows that seamlessly bring the African bushveld indoors. The lodge offers world-class cuisine in a variety of dining venues, blending rich, tantalizing menus with the tranquility of the bushveld.
Guests can partake in numerous activities, including open vehicle safaris, bush walks, and horse trails, making Mabula a memorable destination. During peak periods, such as South African school vacations, the lodge provides a Cubz Club children's program, educating kids about the African bush and its wildlife. Game viewing is exceptional against a backdrop of rivers, streams, and expansive vistas. The reserve is home to a variety of mammal species, including the Big Five: elephants, lions, white rhinos, hippos, leopards, and buffalo. Additionally, the reserve hosts reptiles like the African python and Nile crocodile, as well as over 300 bird species.

Last minute
South African and SADC residents booking a Superior Room enjoy a reduced per person sharing rate, including accommodation, three meals and two safaris daily, for travel until 31 October 2026. The rate applies to new individual bookings only, a South African identity document or passport is required at confirmation and on check-in, and beverages, transfers and conservation fees are excluded. A minimum three-night stay applies over 7 to 10 August 2026.
Long stay
Guests staying five nights or more at Mabula Game Lodge, or five nights or more combining two or more Extraordinary properties in a single itinerary, save 5 per cent on the total accommodation cost. The offer applies to travel from 10 September to 15 December 2026 and again from 3 January to 15 December 2027, on standard rates and for individual bookings only, and cannot be combined with other specials or free-night offers. A separate five-night combination itinerary is also available, pairing two nights at Mabula in a Superior Room, with three meals and two safaris daily, with three nights at The Cape Milner in Cape Town on a bed and breakfast basis in a Standard or Luxury Room, for travel until 27 December 2026 and excluding transfers and conservation levies.
Family
Children aged five and under stay complimentary, children of 6 to 11 years are charged at 50 per cent of the adult sharing rate, and those from 12 years pay the full adult rate. Children under six are permitted on family safaris only, at management discretion, and one adult sharing with children pays the single adult rate. Superior Room sleeper couch and Suite accommodation takes a maximum of two adults and two children under 12, while the Standard Room and Superior Room accommodate two guests; a reduced conservation levy applies per child per stay.

Children under 6 years are only permitted on the family safaris at management discretion, and are not permitted to view big cats (lion and leopard). A joint family-friendly safari vehicle is used for daily drives with children. Family room occupancy is capped at 2 adults + 2 children under 12 (Superior Room with Sleeper Couch, or Suite). Festive surcharges apply: Christmas Day R300 per adult & R150 per child 6–11; New Year's Eve R450 per adult & R225 per child 6–11.
