Manyeleti Game Reserve

Sabi Sand wildlife, half the rate.

A secluded reserve between the Sabi Sand and Timbavati, offering Big Five game viewing at low vehicle densities within the Greater Kruger.

Manyeleti Game Reserve

Manyeleti Game Reserve

Sabi Sand game viewing, half the price

Manyeleti Game Reserve offers Sabi Sand-calibre Big Five game viewing at roughly half the nightly rate. The reserve shares unfenced boundaries with the Kruger National Park, the Sabi Sand and the Timbavati, so the same lions, leopards and elephants roam freely across all four. What sets Manyeleti apart is its scarcity: just four lodges and camps operate within the reserve, keeping vehicle densities remarkably low and sightings genuinely private.

Rates start from around ZAR 6,000 per person per night at Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp, compared to a typical Sabi Sand entry point above ZAR 15,000. For guests who value the quality of the game viewing over the prestige of the postcode, Manyeleti is the Greater Kruger’s best-kept secret.

Manyeleti Game Reserve, answered.

Read more about Manyeleti Game Reserve
Where is Manyeleti Game Reserve and how do I get there?
Manyeleti sits between the Sabi Sand and Timbavati reserves in the Greater Kruger, Limpopo. Fly from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport (about 75 minutes), then transfer by road for roughly 90 minutes. The drive from Johannesburg takes approximately six hours.
Is the game viewing as good as the Sabi Sand?
Yes. The fences between Manyeleti, the Sabi Sand, the Timbavati and Kruger National Park were removed years ago, so the same Big Five roam across all four reserves. The key difference is vehicle density: Manyeleti’s four properties mean far fewer vehicles at any sighting.
Is Manyeleti a malaria area?
Yes. Manyeleti lies within a seasonal malaria zone. Prophylaxis is recommended, particularly during the wetter months from October to April. Your safari specialist will advise on current protocols.
What does a night in Manyeleti cost?
Rates range from around ZAR 6,000 per person per night at Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp to ZAR 26,400 at Tintswalo Safari Lodge. All rates typically include full board, two daily game drives and guided bush walks.
Which Manyeleti lodge suits families?
Honeyguide Khoka Moya Camp welcomes children and offers a relaxed, family-friendly camp atmosphere. Tintswalo Manor House also caters to families with its spacious suites. For couples and honeymooners, Tintswalo Safari Lodge provides a more exclusive, intimate setting.
What is the best time to visit Manyeleti?
May to September (dry season) for the best game-viewing conditions. October to April for lush landscapes, migratory birds and lower rates. Game viewing is rewarding year-round thanks to the reserve’s position within the Greater Kruger.

Manyeleti or Sabi Sand?

Both reserves are unfenced with each other and with Kruger, so the wildlife is identical. The difference is density and price. The Sabi Sand has more than 20 lodges and higher traffic on sighting roads. Manyeleti has four, and you will often be the only vehicle at a leopard or lion sighting. Nightly rates in the Sabi Sand start above ZAR 15,000 and frequently exceed ZAR 30,000. Manyeleti lodges range from ZAR 6,000 to ZAR 26,400, with the entry point covering full board, two daily game drives and bush walks.

When

The dry season from May to September delivers the best game viewing. Vegetation thins and animals gather at remaining water sources, making sightings more frequent and easier to spot. Winter mornings can be chilly (around 5°C / 41°F), so pack warm layers for early drives.

The green season from October to April brings warmer weather, afternoon thunderstorms and vibrant landscapes. Migratory birds arrive in their thousands, making this the peak period for birding. Rates are generally lower, and the bush feels lush and alive. Manyeleti’s name means “Place of Stars” in the local Shangaan language, and the clear, dry winter skies are the best time to understand why.

Where

Manyeleti lies in the heart of the Greater Kruger, sandwiched between the Sabi Sand to the south and the Timbavati to the north. The nearest airport is Hoedspruit’s Eastgate Airport, a short flight from Johannesburg (about 75 minutes) followed by a roughly 90-minute road transfer to the reserve. By road from Johannesburg, the drive is approximately six hours. Alternatively, some lodges arrange fly-in transfers to private airstrips in the area.

"Very helpful with itinerary and excellent arrangements of transport from and to Cape Town, and Idubi in Sabi Sands and Lukimbi in Kruger. Although a rep for Safari.com said a letter from a doctor was not required, such a letter IS REQUIRED to go on bush walks if older than 65. Fortunately, we checked the reserve web site and had a doctor's letter."
