You Must Know

Child Policy

Two children in their own tent pay 75% of the per-person sharing rate each. The third child in the same tent also pays 75% of the per-person sharing rate. For children aged 12 years: one child sharing with one adult pays 75% of the adult sharing rate, while the adult pays the full adult sharing rate. One child sharing with two adults pays the above child rate, but adults pay double tent rates. Children below three years stay free. Only one child sharing with two adults is allowed in each tent due to size constraints.

The Details

As the first accommodation allowed in Nairobi National Park, the camp offers a unique blend of untamed landscapes and urban proximity, with plains on one side and the city skyline on the other. The park is a wildlife haven, renowned for near-guaranteed sightings of rhinos, making it a must-visit destination.

Accommodation

The camp offers nine spacious and inviting guest tents, each designed to accommodate two people. Locally sourced materials and vibrant textiles create an exotic yet cozy atmosphere. Comfortable beds are equipped with warm blankets and hot water bottles to ensure warmth and comfort during the night.

Dining

All meals are homemade and served on a set menu. Special dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice. Drinks, including ice-cold beer, wine, and gin and tonics, are available at the fully stocked bar in the central mess tent. Meals at Nairobi Tented Camp are carefully curated to complement the safari experience.

Breakfast: A hearty and warming start to the day.

Lunch: Light and refreshing, served under the shade of olive trees.

Dinner: Gourmet options like soufflés and beef fillet, enjoyed under the stars.

Game Drives

Begin your safari adventure with an early morning wake-up call accompanied by freshly brewed coffee or tea. Early game drives offer the perfect opportunity to witness the sunrise and spot a variety of wildlife, including giraffes, buffalo, zebra, impala, and eland. The park is home to both black and white rhinos, lions, and, with some luck, the elusive leopard. After the drive, return to camp for freshly baked bread, coffee, and a hearty breakfast.

Long stay

Reduced rates are available at Nairobi Tented Camp when the camp is added to a longer Porini circuit: guests staying a minimum of six nights, with at least three nights at each of two qualifying camps (one of Porini Amboseli, Porini Rhino or Rhino River, plus one of Porini Mara, Porini Cheetah, Porini Giraffe or Porini Cottages), may extend their itinerary with nights here at the reduced rate. The offer also applies when combining two Mara camps for three nights each, and the reduced rates are valid all year, with the Porini bush camps closed from 16 April to 31 May. These rates are on a bed and breakfast basis, a visit to Nairobi National Park is at additional cost, and the offer cannot be combined with the free-night offer at the cottages.

Family

Children under three years stay free of charge. On the six-night reduced-rate extension, one child aged 3 to 12 sharing a tent with two adults pays 50 per cent of the applicable rate; a maximum of one child may share with two adults in each tent owing to tent size.

Exceptions

No dedicated family tent at Nairobi Tented Camp — the camp has nine two-person guest tents, and tent size limits sharing to a maximum of 1 child with 2 adults per tent (2 or 3 children may share their own tent). Sister Porini camps (e.g. Porini Mara) do offer dedicated Family Tents, but that does not apply here. Note also that the child age band at Nairobi Tented Camp is 3–12 years, which differs from the Porini bush camps (8–16). Rate-sheet mechanics differ between the rack sheet (child pays child rate while adults pay double tent rates) and the 6-night offer (child sharing with 2 adults pays 50% of rates) — confirm which applies at quoting.
