The Details
The lodge was rebuilt with sustainability at its heart, using traditional African motifs and natural materials that blend into the volcanic highland.
The crater below is a self-contained ecosystem sheltering the Big Five alongside vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and flamingo. Guests can descend on private game drives with expert guides, or explore the crater rim on foot with Maasai guides.
The lodge offers 13 room and suite categories, all with crater views. The Rim Rooms feature Maasai-inspired décor with king or twin beds.
The range extends through Family Rooms, the Enkaji Junior, Executive, Crater, Presidential, Royal and Ngorongoro Suites; and Ngorongoro House, which is a private villa.
Three dining venues celebrate the flavours of Tanzania. The Crater Lounge serves traditional African dishes with Asian influences. The Crater Grill uses fire and coal with local produce. The Crater Bar is the place for sundowners and snacks with some of the best views of the caldera. Signature experiences include a bush lunch inside the crater, a five-course canapé dinner overlooking the caldera, and a private crater-view cocktail experience.
The activity programme spans game drives into the caldera, crater rim walking safaris, Maasai boma visits, and day trips to Olduvai Gorge, one of the world’s most important palaeoanthropology sites, where the Laetoli fossilised footprints and early human artefacts are on display. The Spa rounds out the offering with treatments using Inaya Zanzibar products, inspired by Africa’s rich natural biodiversity.

Long stay
Guests travelling the Meliá Tanzania circuit receive a reduction on their accommodation rates: 5 per cent when booking at least one night at Gran Meliá Arusha together with four nights at Meliá Serengeti Lodge and/or Ngorongoro Lodge, or 10 per cent when the Serengeti and/or Ngorongoro portion extends to six nights or more. The discount applies to travel from 4 January to 21 December 2026 and from 4 January to 21 December 2027, and must be requested at the time of booking. Should any part of the itinerary be cancelled or shortened, the discount falls away across all properties, and it cannot be combined with the compulsory Easter or Christmas supplements.

Children under four years stay free of charge in junior suites and suites when sleeping in a cot, and one child under four sharing with one adult stays free in any room category, with the single rate applying. One child aged four to eleven sharing with two adults in any suite category receives a 50 per cent reduction on the adult rate, while a child aged four to eleven sharing with one adult is charged at the double room rate. Government park and concession fees are payable directly at the lodge, with children under five exempt, and these reductions cannot be combined with the compulsory Easter or Christmas supplements.

Interconnected Rim Rooms accommodate up to 2 adults + 2 children (standard Rim Rooms are 2 adults only). Larger family configurations are available in the 2 Bedroom Presidential Suite, 2 Bedroom Royal Suite, Ngorongoro Suite, 4 Bedroom Ngorongoro Suite, and Ngorongoro House, each accommodating combinations of adults, children, and cots. No structured kids' programme or babysitting service is documented.
