The Details
Location
Rra Dinare sits on the Gomoti River in the south of the Dinare Private Reserve (NG34), a game-rich concession of roughly 67,000 acres bordering Moremi Game Reserve in the eastern Okavango Delta. The camp lies on the opposite side of the concession to its sister camp Mma Dinare, opening up a slightly different landscape of riverine woodland that leopards favour and seasonal water sources that draw migrating game.
The concession was once leased for controlled trophy hunting before the Botswana government shifted to low-impact, high-value photographic safaris in the early 2000s. Today the camp operates in partnership with the Sankuyo Community and stands as a model of community-conscious tourism.
Santawani airstrip is about a 45-minute drive from camp. Light-aircraft flights run roughly 20 minutes from Maun and 1 hour 20 minutes from Kasane. Three-hour road transfers and self-drive from Maun are also available.
Accommodation
Sheltered by stands of riverine palms and hardwood trees, the tents line the waterway and overlook prime Okavango scenery. The camp has eight standard suites and one family suite, all raised on decks above the floodplain.
Each suite has a private viewing deck with outside seating and waterhole views, a spacious lounge with armchairs, ceiling fan, tea and coffee facilities, a charging station with international plugs and USB, and a writing desk. The en-suite bathroom includes a flushing toilet, double vanity basins, an outdoor shower, gowns and hot and cold water.
Dining
Spacious open-sided dining, lounge and bar areas sit beneath thatched roofing, with an elevated firepit and circular viewing deck overlooking the floodplain. Meals are served against the soundtrack of buffalo, elephant and lion moving through the surrounding bush.
Activities
All activities are hosted by Kwando's guide and tracker teams, with departure times and duration tailored to season, sightings and guest interests. Day and night game drives run year-round across the concession, with off-road tracking permitted. Seasonal mokoro excursions on the Delta operate from May to September, and nature walks are available across the concession. Helicopter safaris can be added at extra cost. Guests typically encounter large buffalo herds, lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, wild dog, hippo, crocodile, hyena, giraffe and zebra.
Facilities
The camp has a swimming pool, safari shop and complimentary laundry service. Power runs entirely on solar with backup generators, and limited Wi-Fi connectivity is available.
