The Details
Location
Summerfields sits on the R536 Hazyview to Sabie road, around 5km from Perry's Bridge and roughly 10km from the Phabeni Gate of the Kruger National Park. The farm runs across 100 acres of rolling hills down to the Sabie River, planted with macadamia and litchi orchards and granadilla vines.
The setting places guests within easy reach of both the southern Kruger and the dramatic viewpoints of the Panorama Route, making it a natural base for combining a Big Five safari with the canyons and waterfalls of the Mpumalanga escarpment.
Accommodation
The retreat offers 11 luxury tented suites along the river, a new luxury suited tent and a Forest Suite, joined by two upmarket timber suites and two self-catering family houses, The Stonehouse and The Farm House. Each suite is finished with bespoke furniture, percale linen and fresh-cut roses from the farm, and the soundtrack is the cascading water of the Sabie and the calls of resident birds and hippos.
Dining
The River Café is open exclusively to lodge and spa guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Menus are built around organic vegetables harvested from the farm's own nursery, with careful attention paid to seasonality, plating and table settings. A boma and bar provide a relaxed setting for coffee through the day and cocktails into the evening.
Rose Spa
The Rose Spa is set within the gardens and uses the sound of the Sabie River as part of the treatment experience. Therapists offer invigorating massages and a range of rituals designed to slow guests down and reset after travel.
Activities
Guided Kruger Park safaris are arranged from the lodge, along with Panorama Route tours taking in God's Window, the Blyde River Canyon and the Bourke's Luck Potholes. On the farm itself, guests can walk the orchards, swim in the 20-metre pool at the family house or simply settle on a deck above the river.
