The Details
On the far northern border of South Africa lies a beautiful area known as the Groot Marico. It is in this spectacular setting, in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, that the privately owned Tau Game Lodge is situated.
Madikwe Game Reserve is currently the country’s fourth-largest game reserve, comprising 75,000 hectares. Situated in the North West Province, it boasts year-round game viewing and is one of the few reserves where visitors can view a wide variety of fauna.
Breeding herds of elephants, white and black rhinos, lions, cheetahs, spotted and brown hyenas, buffaloes, leopards, zebras, and the endangered wild dogs, along with various antelope species, giraffes, ostriches, warthogs, and an array of small mammals, are among the magnificent animals that roam the reserve. Madikwe is also home to a bird population of over 250 different species.
Built in 1995, Tau Game Lodge overlooks a natural waterhole, which attracts a variety of game. The diverse vegetation thrives in the fertile topsoil, adding to the reserve's beauty. The lodge has since been revamped and now offers a blend of comfort, luxury, and an authentic bush feel.
Thirty luxury chalets are spread out in a U-formation on either side of the lodge, providing excellent views of animals approaching the waterhole from the opposite bank. The lodge holds a 5-star rating, and the chalets are equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, mini-bars, safes, tea and coffee facilities, en-suite bathrooms with open-air showers, and private decks, ensuring privacy while experiencing the bush.
Families with children are welcome at Tau Game Lodge. Twenty standard chalets accommodate two adults sharing, while the more spacious deluxe chalets, with comfortable seating areas, can accommodate parents and children sharing the same room. The sliding doors offer spectacular views of the breathtaking, rugged surroundings and the tranquil bushveld.
The state-of-the-art Convention Centre, located within walking distance of the lodge, can seat up to 150 delegates. It is equipped with high-quality equipment, making it an ideal conference venue.
The Tau Spa Oasis is a serene sanctuary that reflects the soul of Africa. Its natural surroundings enhance the experience, enabling guests to indulge their senses with a unique fusion of therapies designed to replenish and soothe the body, mind, and soul.

With Pascal and Shann across the team.
"Very helpful with itinerary and excellent arrangements of transport from and to Cape Town, and Idubi in Sabi Sands and Lukimbi in Kruger. Although a rep for Safari.com said a letter from a doctor was not required, such a letter IS REQUIRED to go on bush walks if older than 65. Fortunately, we checked the reserve web site and had a doctor's letter."
