You Should Know

Tiloreza welcomes families, with a dedicated Family Suite and extra-person rates for children sharing with adults. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is restricted to guests aged 15 and over, set by the Rwanda Development Board, so younger children remain at the lodge during treks. Rwanda applies a 3% accommodation tax on the room charge in addition to quoted rates.

The Details

Location

The lodge sits on the Musanze-Kinigi road in the village of Kinigi, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park in north-western Rwanda. Transfers from Kigali International Airport take around three hours by road, climbing through terraced hillsides into the Virunga foothills.

Lush gardens, mountain views and proximity to the park briefing point make Tiloreza a practical base for back-to-back gorilla and golden monkey treks, while keeping the feel of a small, locally run guesthouse rather than a corporate resort.

Accommodation

Tiloreza offers four Standard Rooms, eleven Deluxe Rooms and two Suites, with two new Premium Deluxe units opening in October 2025. The Family Suite sleeps additional guests on extra beds, and the VIP Cottage provides the most private and spacious option on the property.

Dining

All meals are included for in-house guests on full board, with drinking water and a complimentary soda served at each meal. Garden BBQs can be arranged for groups, and a chocolate-and-wine tasting or coffee tasting can be added on request.

Activities

Beyond gorilla and golden monkey trekking, the lodge arranges cultural dance performances, talks with an expert gorilla speaker, bike rentals, and paint-and-wine evenings with a local painter. Guests have free use of the swimming pool, and massage treatments can be booked at an extra cost.
