Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Transfer to Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge

 
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your professional English-speaking driver-guide. After a brief introduction, embark on a scenic drive through Rwanda’s lush countryside towards the Volcanoes National Park, home to the iconic mountain gorillas. As you wind through picturesque landscapes and vibrant local communities, take in the beauty of the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”

On arrival at Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge, check in and enjoy some time to relax in the serene surroundings. In the evening, savor a delicious dinner at the lodge while your guide provides a briefing on what to expect during your once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking adventure the next day.  

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Trekking Experience

Start the day early with a hearty breakfast before heading to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for an essential briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette. Led by experienced park rangers, venture into the misty forest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The trek may take several hours, but the reward is an awe-inspiring hour spent observing these magnificent creatures up close in their natural habitat — a truly life-changing experience.

After returning to the lodge, enjoy a well-earned lunch and spend the afternoon at your leisure. You may choose to visit the nearby Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Rwandan traditions or simply unwind at the lodge. As the day winds down, delight in a sumptuous dinner and reflect on your extraordinary encounter with the mountain gorillas.  

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking & Cultural Experience  

After breakfast, set out for an exhilarating Golden Monkey Trek in Volcanoes National Park. These playful and energetic primates, known for their striking golden-orange fur, are a delight to observe as they leap through the bamboo forests. Unlike gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking is generally less strenuous, making it an exciting and accessible adventure.  

Following the trek, return to the lodge for lunch before heading out for an afternoon cultural experience. You can visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Museum to learn about conservation efforts or explore a local community to gain insight into traditional Rwandan customs and daily life.  

Return to the lodge for dinner and enjoy your final evening in the heart of Rwanda’s breathtaking wilderness.  

Day 4: Return to Kigali & Departure  

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before checking out of Tiloreza Volcanoes Ecolodge. Begin the drive back to Kigali, where, depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a short city tour. Highlights include a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, offering a poignant insight into Rwanda’s history, or a stop at local markets to pick up unique souvenirs.  

Your driver-guide will then transfer you to Kigali International Airport in time for your departure flight, marking the end of a truly unforgettable Rwandan safari experience.
