The detail

The Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, extending over 153 00 acres, is part of the largest conservation area in South Africa, and is the oldest of all the private reserves. The reserve borders the Kruger National Park, and with no fences between them, the game moves freely through this vast natural reserve.

Sabi Sands is known for its superior safari lodges and Big Five sightings with the diverse habitats assuring a wide diversity of game. The luxurious Singita Boulders Lodge is carved out of the Earth, and inspired by the boulders on which it rests, harmonising perfectly with its surroundings. The stone and thatch lodge is set along the Sand River, blending seamlessly into the rocky landscape to create a restful and relaxing retreat. Vast expanses of glass walls create a sense of space and light, and assure guests of views of the wildlife filled landscape from all angles,

The beautifully appointed Boulders Lodge offers discerning guests the quintessential African safari, accompanied by flawless personalised service.

Accommodation at the sophisticated Boulders Lodge is in twelve luxury suites. The spacious suites are located to ensure privacy and to maximise views through glass front-facing walls. The opulent suites feature king-sized beds with Egyptian cotton sheets and a sumptuous lounge area.

Each suite features a glass-fronted bathroom, with a huge ball-and-claw tub looking out over the wilderness, and both an indoor and outdoor shower.

All suites offer a double-sided fireplace and an elevated timber viewing deck with heated plunge pool.

The main lodge houses a comfortable lounge, bar area, and reference library. Boulders Lodge is known for its exceptional cuisine and service and magnificent wine cellar. Personalised wine tastings are conducted for guests by the lodge sommelier. During the day, meals can be taken on the deck overlooking the Sand River and the rugged bushveld, or beneath the shady Marula trees. Starlit dinners are served around a log fire in the boma, or in the privacy of your suite. Children are well catered for with a range of activities including games, archery, cooking, and a Mini Rangers’ Course.

The tranquil swimming pool area has comfortable sun loungers, a wonderful way to relax and refresh between activities. For chillier days, there is the option of a heated pool. Alternatively, the Bush spa offers a range of revitalising and relaxing treatments, and guests may enjoy magnificent bush views while working out in the well-equipped gym.

Qualified rangers lead dawn and dusk game drives in open viewing vehicles, assuring guests sightings of both diurnal and nocturnal creatures. Expert guides and trackers accompany guests on walking safaris, which provide a wonderful opportunity to track animals on foot and discover the secrets of the plants and landscapes.

The Sabi Sand region is one of the most prolific wildlife areas in the world. The region is famous for its big cat activity and leopard sightings are common. The area is home to the Big Five, and a huge diversity of other mammals. Night game drives reveal seldom seen nocturnal creatures, including hyena, Black-backed jackal, porcupine and the rare honey badger. Four endangered species can be sighted here – the Wild dog, Black rhino, ten bat species, and the Ground hornbill.

With more than 300 bird species on its list, Sabi Sands is a great birding destination. Notable species include the Bateleur eagle, Black-bellied bustard, Burchell’s coucal, Shelly’s francolin, Red-billed oxpecker and Knob-billed duck. Other specialties include the Black-crowned night heron, Emerald cuckoo, Purple heron, and Verreaux’s eagle owl.

Stayed at singita boulders lodge in jan. The food, the staff, the room and the experience of the safari is out of the world. Managed to squeeze in a massage which was divine. Singita is now my number 1 destination. It is really an experience to a different level. The attention to details is spectacular. Each lodge comes with a river view where u can see elephants roaming around and many other games. Been to artic circle, Alaska, n Maldives but this is really out of the world.

My first game lodge on my trip to Africa, and also my favorite. The view out the front terrace was remarkable. The food was great, and I enjoyed both a BOMA (barbecue) and restaurant experience for dinner, as well as there being very nice breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea options throughout the day. The rooms were modern and offered many helpful items, like bug spray and animal guides. The beds were very comfortable, equipped with mosquito nets and electric blankets. The hotel felt very safe and although the occasional monkey would jump down and try to steal some food, most quietly observed from the roof. The safaris were great, not only because of the animals(which were great and plentiful, my group saw the BIg 5 in a grand total of 2 days on safari) but also because of the wonderful guides. Unlike other safari camps I visited in Botswana which required a guide to provide information, track animals, and drive all by him/herself, Singita allowed both a guide and a tracker on the vehicle. Our guide, Joh Martin, was fantastic and deserves a special shout-out. And our tracker, Peter, was remarkable and could identify an animal track when all I saw a clump of dirt. We also took a walking tour with our guide, which was great and we learned a lot. Overall, a fantastic safari experience.

Yes! This place is as amazing as the other reviewers have described. I just have a couple additional notes that were specific to our visit: 1. I do not eat red meat, which sometimes makes menus tough for me. They knew my food preferences before my arrival, and had planned out daily menus each day just for me. They even put my name on my personal menu! This is a huge treat for a picky eater to have so many options just for me! 2. On the last night of our honeymoon, they whisked us off to the airstrip for a private dinner, just me, my hubby, and the chef. Amazing! 3. If you ask the sommelier for a private tasting, she will let you pretty much taste anything in the cellar and the make sure you get your favorite at dinner that night.
