Situated at the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet, Agulhas National Park provides comfortable lodging surrounded by the pristine coastal landscape of the Agulhas National Park. Designed with environmental conservation in mind, the intimate camp is located near the famous Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, which overlooks the shipwrecks of some of the 250 vessels run aground by the notorious ‘Cape of Storms’.
The camp was developed to meet high environmental standards according to a ‘touch-the-earth-lightly’ principle, which endeavours to reduce the impact on the environment to disturbed sites only. The Agulhas Rest Camp is ideally situated to experience the best of what the ‘Cape of Storms’ has to offer.
Accommodation is serviced daily (except for the washing of dishes) and is equipped with bedding and towels.
Keys must be collected and returned to Reception on check out at 214 Main Road, Agulhas (last building on the right before the lighthouse).
Rhenosterkop Guest Cottages
31km from the Agulhas Cape Lighthouse off the Struisbaai / Elim road, Rhenosterkop’s accommodation takes the shape of three historic cottages situated on the old homestead of one of the oldest farms in Strandveld, which was established in 1742. The road to Rhenosterkop is gravel and a high clearance vehicle is recommended during the wet season (Jun - Aug). Contact the park reception before arrival to confirm the roads condition. The travelling time to Rhenosterkop from the reception (close to the lighthouse) is more or less 45 minutes
Bergplaas Guest House
This guest house is situated more or 36km from the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse. The road to Bergplaas is gravel and a high clearance vehicle is recommended during the wet season (Jun - Aug). Contact the park reception before arrival to confirm the roads condition. The travelling time to Bergplaas from the reception (close to the lighthouse) is more or less an hours drive.
There are a number of activities available in the park and surrounding towns. Explore the local landscape with activities such as hiking trails, 4x4 trails, bird watching, whale watching (June to September), swimming, and rock and surf angling. The park offers a great diversity of flora with approximately 2000 species of indigenous plants, including 100 that are endemic to the area, and over 110 Red Data Book species. Although most species bloom between May and September, there are flowers to be enjoyed in any season.
This is the southernmost tip of Africa (Agulhas), where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet officially at 34° 49’ 58" South and 20° 00’ 12’’ East. The rough seas off Cape Agulhas were treacherous for early explorers and a number of shipwrecks can be found along the coastline, including the wrecks of the Zoetendal, Birkenhead, Arniston and Meisho Maru 38.
The nearby Bredasdorp Shipwreck museum showcases the stories and remnants of these fateful voyagers. The Cape Agulhas Lighthouse was built to aid the early explorers and is a museum, as well as the second oldest working lighthouse in southern Africa. Remains of ancient stone fish traps used by the Khoisan people can be seen to the east of the lighthouse.
There are no facilities in the park, restaurants, pubs, shops, banks, and other facilities are available in the nearby towns of L’Agulhas, Struisbaai or Bredasdorp.

Outstanding and professional performance by Pascal John
Pascal John quickly proved his professionalism as well as his in-depth and experienced knowledge of South Africa safaris. He demonstrated the ability to rapidly understand what I was looking for out of a safari trip and how to make that happen. He added real value to the process with his connections to lodging reservations at various lodges and arranged for an itinerary that is not possible to accomplish by oneself on the internet alone. For example, he was able to negotiate away for me a single supplement. He added immediate value and quickly/painlessly everything came together. This includes booking flights, ground transport, lodging and wildlife drives. I can without reservation recommend working with Pascal John at Safari.com.
