The Details

Location

Singita Castleton sits within 45,000 acres of private wilderness in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, on the western boundary of the greater Kruger ecosystem. The concession is unfenced with Kruger National Park, giving guests access to what Singita calls Big Cat Country, with reliable sightings of leopard, lion and cheetah alongside elephant, buffalo, rhino and wild dog.

Accommodation

The property is arranged as a stone-walled homestead with six additional double en-suite cottages, sleeping up to 12 guests in total. Each cottage has its own private outdoor area with views over the bush and Castleton Dam. Shared living spaces include a country-style kitchen, a temperature-controlled wine cellar and an outdoor boma for fireside dinners.

In-villa amenities include a swimming pool, a private tennis court, a fitness centre, a yoga pavilion, spa treatment rooms with in-room services, a trampoline and outdoor play areas for children. Satellite television, a DVD library and backup generators run alongside a full concierge team of house manager, chef and housekeeping staff. Kosher and Halaal meals are available on request.

Game Drives

Guests share a private Land Rover with their own guide and tracker for the duration of their stay, with the schedule shaped around the group rather than a fixed lodge programme. Traversing rights across the Singita Sabi Sand concession give consistent access to leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah and wild dog, and off-vehicle activities include guided walking safaris and birdwatching sessions with the field guides.

The Hwata photographic hide provides a ground-level vantage point for wildlife photography, and additional activities include stargazing in the low-light bush, sommelier-led wine tastings and community project visits, including the Anti-Poaching Canine Unit by prior arrangement.

Spa

The villa has dedicated spa treatment rooms and offers in-room services, so massages and treatments can be arranged in the cottage or on a private deck. A fitness centre and yoga pavilion are available for guests who want to keep to a routine between drives.

Dining

Meals are prepared by a private chef and menus are customised daily, drawing on South African and international cuisine. Guests can eat communally in the boma under the stars, privately in their cottages, on the decks, or in the indoor dining room. The temperature-controlled cellar is stocked with a curated selection of fine South African wines, and sommelier-led tastings can be arranged in the villa.

Exceptions

Singita Castleton is booked on a private-use (exclusive-use) basis and includes a private vehicle in the daily rate. Children of all ages are welcome. Singita's general rule that families travelling with children under 10 must book a private vehicle is effectively pre-covered here — families of up to three including under-10s are charged the private vehicle rate; families of four or more including under-10s receive complimentary use of the private vehicle. The general Singita 10-year minimum age applies at Boulders, Lebombo (excl. Two-Bedroom Suites and Villa), Sabora and Mara River — Castleton is not among these restricted properties. In the interest of safety, children participate in safari activities at the discretion of the Singita guide.

"We had a wonderful experience booking with Safari.com. The whole team (advisor, insurance, concierge, payment) is so professional and the process so smooth. We had the best travel advisor Sara Van Coillie. She was extremely knowledgeable and patient getting to know our needs and preferences and make the best booking uniquely suited for us. She even called local visa services companies for us due to a visa issue. We’re very grateful for the wonderful support."
