About the lodge

An overview of AndBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge.

andbeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge has an almost surreal quality against the backdrop of the spectacular Namib Desert. The tranquil atmosphere of this unique landscape is a refreshing change of pace from the hustle and bustle of a busy city. With the wilderness stretching out towards the horizon every way you look, the sense of isolation from the outside world is instant and intense.

Highlights

  • Stargazing Extravaganza - a nightly star feast featuring a sophisticated on-site observatory, a state-of-the-art Celestron CPC 1100 GPS (XLT) computerized telescope, and a large stargazing skylight above your bed.
  • Specialist-Led Experiences - our team will assist you in planning a range of exciting, specialist-guided experiences to ensure you get the most out of your desert adventure during your stay.
  • Soar Over Sossusvlei - enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the vast desert plains surrounding the lodge during a scenic helicopter flight.
  • Big Dune Walk Experience - traverse ancient sands and hike 'Long Dune’s' winding crest, sculpted by prevailing winds.

The Detail

Exploring this land and its hardy inhabitants is an experience unlike any other. Zebra, springbok, jackal, and gemsbok are just some of the many fascinating creatures you may encounter during a scenic drive or nature walk. Marked hiking trails are a popular activity, as is the high-speed adrenaline rush of quad-biking across the surrounding sand dunes.

Set amidst an ocean of dunes, rocky outcrops, and gravel plains, the utter tranquility and extraordinary clarity of light make this area one of Africa’s most compelling landscapes. The night skies are heavenly, with the concession bordering the International Dark Sky Reserve of the NamibRand Nature Reserve. A canvas of beauty that invites reconnection with yourself and nature.

Sustainability and uncompromised luxury go hand in hand at Sossusvlei. Ten beautifully appointed stone and glass suites, spread out along the curve of the escarpment, open onto ever-changing outlooks. Each spacious air-conditioned suite features a secluded, shaded veranda complete with a private plunge pool, a living room with a fireplace, a large retractable skylight above the bed, and an ensuite bathroom with a glass-encased rain shower offering 180º desert views. The two-bedroom Star Dune Suite is an ideal option for families or groups of friends.

The split-level guest area is an inspired masterpiece of glass, rock, and steel. Large glass panels fold away to reveal unobstructed desert vistas. Inviting amenities include a central island bar, a comfortable sitting room, a walk-in cellar, an interactive kitchen, and a rim-flow pool. Other signature features include numerous shaded, private spaces; a sunrise-view gym; and a sunset-facing wellness center offering both a treatment room with a private spa bath and a separate wet-room spa. The lodge’s Signature Shop showcases Namibia’s finest craft offerings.
