Overview

Occupying a comfortable position in the eastern quadrant of the attractive Tsitsikamma National Park, Storms River Mouth Rest Camp is host to a breathtaking eighty kilometer focus of craggy shoreline, dramatic and beautiful sea conditions, and landscapes drawn from the impressive confluence of the two.


 

Accommodation

Accommodation options at Storms River Mouth Rest Camp are as follows.

• Ninety camping / caravan sites are available for accommodation at the rest camp, equipped with communal ablution, laundry and washing-up facilities. Selected sites also have electricity points.

• Twenty forest huts are completed with a single bedroom each, sleeping two people in separate single beds. Ablutions and kitchen areas are communal.

• Seventeen oceanettes are also available along the ocean's edge, incorporating open plan living areas and either one bedroom with three single beds or two bedrooms with four beds, kitchens, and bathrooms with WCs, baths or showers.

• Also available are eighteen chalets, all self equipped and open plan, with one bedroom and two single beds, a double sleeper couch in lounge, kitchens, bathrooms with WCs, showers and basins.

• There are also fifteen family cottages, each sporting two bedrooms, with two single beds each, a kitchen, and bathroom with a WC, shower and bath.

• Storms River Mouth rest camp also has five Honeymoon Cottages. These stand alone units have one bedroom each, with a double bed, as well as kitchens, and bathrooms with WCs and showers. 

Activities & Facilities

The area in which Storms River Mouth Rest Camp finds itself offers entertainment in the form bungee jumping excursions from the nearby Bloukrans River bridge, the highest jump in the world. Additionally, abseiling and climbing are available, as well as hiking loops, mountain biking trails, tractor-trailer rides and 4 x 4 trails. Tree top tours and kloofing excursions are also available.

Facilities offered by the camp include a souvenir shop that also stocks basic commodities, an a la carte restaurant which also serves light refreshments, a laundromat and ironing room (flat-irons not supplied), a swimming pool reserved for resident guests only, and an information outlet. Fuel is available at Storms River Bridge (±25km from Storms River Rest Camp (Tsitsikamma Section). 

Important Information

Day visitors are welcome, subject to their payment of a nominal daily conservation fee. No firearms are allowed.

The nearest garage or vehicle repair facilities are available at Witelsbos, thirty kilometers from Storms River Mouth Rest Camp, medical, hospital and pharmaceutical facilities at Kareedouw, fifty-five kilometers away.
There are post office and police services at Storms River village, thirteen kilometers away, and a post box is available at the rest camp itself.

Filling stations are available in or on the periphery of all South African National Parks, and, as per legislation, fuel stations accept legitimate petrol/fuel/garage/credit/debit cards or cash as payment for fuel purchases.

Scuba divers must present valid certificate and supply own equipment. SCUBA refill facilities are available at Storms River Rest Camp.

Roller blades and skateboards are prohibited from the park and pets are not allowed. 

Wildlife

Local wildlife in or near the Storms River Mouth Camp includes dolphins and porpoises, African Black oyster catcher, Knysna Lourie, Cape Clawless Otter, and duiker.

Directions

Storms River Mouth is in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park is situated some 615km from Cape Town, 195km from Port Elizabeth and 68km from Plettenberg Bay.

• The access route from the N2 highway and all internal roads are tarred. 
• Airports are found in George, Port Elizabeth and Plettenberg Bay
