What an incredible place. We had a wonderful lodge, but hardly had any chance to enjoy it!. The game drives are at 4pm and 5.30am so our day was alarm call at 5am. Tea/coffee and biscuits at the main lodge 5.30 - 9.30 game drive with pause half way through to have tea/coffee (recommend the hot chocolate with amarula!) and biscuits 9.30 breakfast. as much as you can eat 10.30 back to our room to sleep! 1pm buffet lunch with a couple of hot dishes 2pm sit by fire in main lounge and play a board game 3pm back to our room for plunge pool / write diary / check photos 4pm tea/coffee and cakes 4.30pm game drive with pause half way through for "sundowner" and nibbles 7.30/8pm back to main lodge for dinner (as it was dark by now, they encouraged people just to peel off outer layers of clothes and go to dinner rather than have to find guard to take us to our room to change and back) Everything was included - free mini bar, tea/coffee at all hours, all drinks at the bar and table... good food. We started off sitting at a table on our own, but ended up eating with the other couples in our Jeep.

Had a fabulous time here. Two days with wonderful ranger - Rikki, seeing a huge number of animals, eating amazing food. It's quite a large lodge so attracts groups, which could have been alarming when you want a quiet place. But the lodge gave us our dinner by candlelight on the verandah of our room. Very romantic and lovely.

Twenty years ago we spent a couple of nights at Phinda on our way back from vacation in Swaziland. Pure magic! Loved the evening river cruise, outside night meals with tablecloths and silver service, wine, and the warmth of all the staff. Could it ever be the same again in 2014?Well it truly was, with the bonus the rangers were even more knowledgeable, the animals even more abundant - easily clocked up the 'big 5' with several sightings of leopard and fab birdlife. Thanks to Tiff, Daryl, Wess and Dumi (Coming from the UK, the exchange rate was great, so we were able to spend money on local crafts at co-operatives benefiting the local community too)

I have just returned to the UK from my SA adventure and by far Phina and all it had to offer was the best experience of my months travelling...(luxury travelling)We were very lucky to have 4 nights in Mountain Lodge which gave us 8 Game Drives, each drive was just as exciting as the last and enabled us time to see the Big 5 and more! Lucky our ranger was not only so knowledgeable but good fun.The lodge accommodation was very comfortable and extremely private and was a great space to relax in after our early morning drives. For me the added extras that Phina go to is what made our 4 nights so special....The morning Champagne Breakfast which had been beautifully set up for our surprise arrival was a wonderful treat. Each meal at Mountain Lodge was outstanding, we enjoyed private meals just the 2 of us and also dining at a hosted table with our Ranger.Massive thank you to everyone who contributed to our stay at Mountain Lodge we look forward to seeing you when we return next year!

Phinda is something to be experienced at least once in your lifetime if not more. Beautiful and stunning are some of the words I would use, just a shame that this lodge did not know how to make a South African classic Dom Pedro

The transfer was ok and we got to the lodge in due time for the first safari. We had seen many animals and enjoyed the comment of the ranger. We saw young lions with their mother practicing attacks on a rhinoceros baby who was with its mother.

Too true, Sibu&Beyond; and the Mountain Lodge at Phinda Private Reserve exceeded my expectations. Everything ran smoothly from the moment we were picked up from our hotel in Durban. The staff were wonderful: they displayed good humour and a genuine personal touch while delivering a totally professional service. Our guide and tracker were also fantastic. Not only did they make sure we got see a huge range of wildlife, they did it in an informative way and seemed to be just as thrilled at finding the animals themselves as we were to see them in the wild. Finding animals on safari doesn't provide instant gratification (nor should it) but just about everything else does. The safaris, the Big 5, sundowners, the meals and the settings...all good; We packed so many memories into such a short period. It was brilliant and thanks to all those that contributed.

Phinda Mountain Lodge was our first time to a game reserve and I can't think of a better way to start a vacation in South Africa. We drove from Durban and had no trouble finding the Lodge, and from the moment of arrival through to our departure after two nights everything was perfect. Staff were warm and welcoming, and our room was clean and well-appointed with all the usual amenities of a luxury hotel. Food was very good with lots of choice. The game drives were thrilling (cold mornings, but hot water bottles and blankets helped). Our ranger, Matt, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and our tracker, Bongese, was equally so. We had so many interesting and exciting experiences, from watching a cheetah and her four cubs lounging about while they decided what to do about dinner, to witnessing a lion kill, to watching the cheeky monkeys as they looked for an opportunity to steal some food at the main lodge. Every game drive had a little surprise! This was truly a wonderful start to our South African safari and my only regret is that we hadn't booked for three nights.

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe our fantastic stay at Phinda. We visited at Phinda Mountain Lodge for four nights at the beginning of August. The Lodge is small with only 25 rooms so it was never noisy or busy. The staff are very attentive and it has a warm friendly atmosphere. The Lodge is not enclosed and there were a lot of nyala and other game wandering freely around the rooms. For this reason guests need to be accompanied by a guard after dark. This was never a problem as guards were always available to walk with you and we didn’t have to wait long for a guard to come and get us.We had two separate suites to accommodate ourselves and our two children (aged 11 and 14). At first we were concerned as the rooms were not very close to one another even though we were neighbours but the children soon proved to us that this was not a problem. Both suites were lovely: the accommodation simply but comfortably furnished, with enormous picture windows opening onto a terrace with plunge pool. The children’s terrace was frequently visited by thirsty nyala, coming to drink. I was able to listen to and observe countless birds from our terrace as we lay in the peace and quiet between game drives. Beware of the monkeys though, I caught one pushing open the sliding door on our terrace in an attempt to sneak in.On our first night we enjoyed a wonderful braai by lantern light in the bush, with superb food, and a huge brazier adding to the atmosphere. Other meals were also taken in the Boma, an enclosed outdoor eating area. The food was always hearty and excellent. As the evenings were cool in August we were also supplied with blankets for our knees!I cannot praise Ashley (our guide) and Busani (our tracker) enough for the contribution they made to our stay. Busani demonstrated his first class game tracking skills as we scoured the reserve in search of big game. Ashley shared his in-depth knowledge of the bush and the wildlife within it. We were lucky enough to have a vehicle to ourselves and then we saw all of the big five on our first day. There was so much wonderful game to see and we were able to get so close to it and then sit quietly and take it all in. It is an experience we will never forget. Best part of our South African holiday by far.Busani took the time to teach our children the basics of tracking and they were completely hooked. Ashley let our son sit next to him in the front of our vehicle and they were often deep in earnest conversation. These experiences turned an already exciting safari experience into unforgettable adventure. There were a number of really nice touches to our stay: one night we came back to find our room decorated with candles. There are others but I wouldn’t want to spoil the surprise.&Beyond; go out of their way to demonstrate their eco credentials and there is a real feeling of caring for the reserve and the game in it. I would definitely seek out &Beyond; resorts elsewhere for future holiday destination.

Arriving into the resort on its own private airstrip in a 12 seater gave us a feel of what was to come. Primitive on one hand but true luxury on the other, both making the trip unique as an experience. We visited as a group of work colleagues (all male) and basically had the lodge to ourseves. Each of us had our own hut come bungalow needing armed guard to access after dark... no not a gimmick! You are really up close to nature, with nature getting their own back after dark. During daylight From sunrise and sunset both seen during safari trips in open, exposed trucks where we got amongst, Lions, Leppard's etc, not so close to Elephants and the less predictable animals. A true WOW from start to finish getting really up close and personal. The tracker and drivers are very skilled (and armed) getting the closeness just on the edge of intrusive. To think I bought a new camera with long range ability! The accomodation was very luxurious, food awesome and staff the best. Only wish I could have my wife join me in the bungalow with its awesome facilities ant out look.. Just one note, don't leave your sliding doors ajar as the monkies raid your 'mini bar' for the sweets and fruit... I was a laughing victim!

We spent 3 wonderful days at Phinda of which 2 were at the Mountain Lodge. We highly recommend this lodge for it's overall excellence.Minutes after we arrived at the reserve we saw a large heard of elephants crossing the road with their babies. We waited for them to pass and had a bit of excitement as the bull semi charged at us warming us away from the young. 10 minutes later we came across a mother and her 3 cheater cubs feeding on a recently killed nyala. Turning into the lodge we took a photo in which there were zebra, nyala's, wildebeest and warthogs. This was a brilliant start to our 3 day stay at Phinda. We arrived as it was getting dark so after being shown to our rooms we were called to dinner. The ranger drove us in an open roof safari ranger deep into the wild for a bush dinner. The setting was absolutely exquisite. The cosy area was surrounded with lanterns and the glow of a fire in the centre of the area. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was delicious with a large range for meat and veggies eaters. We didn't make any of the early morning drives out but we saw so much on the afternoon rides. Lions. cheeters, hippo's, white rhino's, hippos, giraffe, zebras nyala, impala, wildebeest, warthogs, baboons, money's and a large range of birds. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a outdoor shower and large victorian-style bath next to a large sliding door. We had a private plunge pool with two comfy deck-chairs.

Unorgettable trip in South Africa
We have spent 12 days as a family in South Africa with my 3 children and my wife who is in a wheelchair. Thanks to Pascal, Safari.com consultant, we were able to spend an unforgettable moment with a great program while being well accompanied despite our constraints. I recommand particularly the "Monwana game lodge" for a safari in Hoedspruit. It's an amazing place with very nice people and a real family atmosphere. Thank you to the entire Safari.com team for this unforgettable trip.

Superior service, knowledgeable, transparent, amazing can-do attitude
These guys get 10/10. I have booked with them a few times. To Kruger National Park, including both public and private(concession) camps, flights and car hire. Their senior agent, Dolan is exceptional. Nothing is too much trouble. Attention to detail, transparency, and 'can-do' attitude are out of the ordinary. I recently came into contact with Tanya at safari.com as well. It looks like all their agents are similarly well trained. Thank you. I cannot recommend Dolan and his team highly enough.

Cape Town miracle
I was in Cape Town, South Africa recently for an athletic competition and had allowed myself a week of personal time to relax and properly conclude the trip, but had not bothered to plan a safari to occupy the time. I was skeptical of the cost and whether I would enjoy the experience, however a couple days into that final week it occurred to me, in a bit of a panic attack, what a waste it would be not to take advantage of this opportunity. I hopped online and started looking at flights to Johannesburg (almost all the safaris in SA start there with an early morning pick up), but it was basically impossible to get a flight early enough and/or to coordinate with the multiple safaris operating in or just outside of Kruger. With no apparent options available to turn my remaining 4 1/2 days into even a 3 day safari I stumbled on the most obvious website one could imagine, Safari.com. I'd completely given up negotiating all the variables on my own but here was a safari travel agent that might be able to help me .. and they were based right out of Cape Town, literally a stones throw from my lodgings. Serendipity, or so i hoped. I immediately sent out an email and crossed my fingers .. for roughly an hour and a half, at which point Dolan from Safari.com responded to me requesting I give him a call so that we could expedite potential arrangements. My in country phone plan wasn't able to make calls, but we arranged for him to call me and not 3 hours after being in the grip of despair Dolan got through to me and far from notifying me of how absurd it was to hold out hope for a literally, last minute safari adventure with barely 4 days available to me, he had already worked out all the details I'd sent and created a preliminary safari trip that would bypass Johannesburg airport for a flight the next morning to a closer, much, much smaller airport where I would be picked up taken, not to a 3 day safari, but a full 4 day safari, then back to the tiny, tiny airport for a return flight to Cape Town with 2 hours to spare for my return leg all the way home. It almost feels like an afterthought, after the minor miracle Dolan was able to conjure up, but the safari itself at Simbavati Lodge was just an absolutely stunning experience. The single "tent" he booked me was as luxurious as any 4 star hotel I've stayed in, the game drives, one every morning, one every evening were more amazing than I could have ever imagined, and the food, 3 meals a day with snacks and an open bar was sublime. I could go on about the wonderful staff, or the wonderful other safari goers you can meet and grab a drink with, or the different animals walking through the open lodge facilities daily .. but I've gone on long enough. I'll simply conclude by saying .. safari, absolutely, yes, do it, it is amazing. And when you do decide, Safari.com will do you right and if you have the pleasure of working with Dolan, do give him my thanks .. the entire experience was the best part of my trip :)

A great company
What to say! We planned a South African Safari for 2020 with Safari.com. We researched companies and took a chance on one we had never heard of before. Henry Franklin was our agent, we gave him our budget and wish list. He came up with a wonderful looking trip and we made our choices! Then came Covid, preventing us from going. We couldn’t have been in better hands. Henry rebooked everything for the next year. He kept us updated on how things looked there. When in 2021, we decided it still looked iffy, he rebooked us a second time for 2022. We couldn’t have been happier with the service we had in a rough time for all. We had a wonderful experience on our trip when we finally got to go!! Henry had everything so well organized and gave us a detailed list of what transfer companies would be meeting us and when. When Airlink bumped us and put us on standby returning from Victoria Falls, we called the concierge number Henry had given us and Catherine worked hard on this and got us back on our flight. The Safari.com team had our back and we have no regrets. Would definitely use them again. Our lodging was wonderful, saw the big 5 within first 2 drives. Henry definitely knew the territory and did a great job matching what we wanted with where he suggested we go and stay. Thanks Safari.com, Henry and Catherine!
