A hand-drawn reference map of Southern Africa, covering the great safari countries of Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, with Lesotho tucked inside South Africa. The classic Southern Africa circuit

The dotted line on the map traces the most-loved Southern Africa itinerary we plan: Cape Town for a few nights at the start, an internal flight up to the Kruger for the Big Five, then west into Botswana for the Okavango Delta and Chobe, finishing at Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe border. Eleven to fourteen nights is the comfortable range; below ten and you spend more time on planes than in the bush.

How to use this map

Use it as a starting point for conversations with one of our safari specialists. The plane icons mark the airports you fly between (Cape Town, Johannesburg, Maun, Kasane and Vic Falls), and the wavy line is the road you can drive instead if you have the time. Most of our guests fly the long internal legs and drive the short transfers.

Where to add on

Three popular extensions, all reachable from the same circuit:

  • Beach finish: a few nights on the Mozambique coast, or back to South Africa's Indian Ocean coastline.
  • Desert detour: drop south from the Okavango into Namibia for Sossusvlei's red dunes and the Skeleton Coast.
  • Wine and the Garden Route: extend Cape Town with a self-drive along the South African coast.
