nThambo Tree Camp is a proud eco-friendly safari camp located in the heart of the Klaserie Nature Reserve of the Greater Kruger National Park. The privately owned reserve shares unfenced borders with the Kruger National Park and is situated west of the Timbavati Game Reserve, covering 60 000 hectares on either side of the Klaserie River. With no fences, wildlife roams freely between the reserves.
The camp is small and intimate with only five wooden tented Chalets raised up on stilts and eye-level with the trees. The walls of each chalet are canvas and the roof is thatched. Each chalet boasts double or twin beds draped with mosquito netting, en-suite bathroom with a shower, pedestal fans, and a verandah which overlooks the plains. Lighting is provided via solar power and a plug point in each chalet is available for guests to charge their camera batteries.
The lodge facilities include a main area, which features a comfortable lounge and bar area, dining room, swimming pool, and open-air boma fireplace. Guests can look forward to experiencing a traditional South African braaivleis cooked over the open fire.
The camp offers morning and afternoon/night game drives conducted in open safari vehicles and led by professional guides and Shangaan trackers. For the more adventurous traveler, bush walks offer the opportunity to learn more about the fauna and flora and the smaller wondrous creatures of the African bush. The Southern Klaserie is home to an abundance of wildlife including the Big 5 and a variety of bird species.
The lions are famous in the Klaserie and the Klaserie pride has been closely followed for years. Other fantastic predators found here are the spotted hyena, black-backed jackal, side-striped jackal, caracal, crocodile, cheetah, serval, and African wild dog. The camp itself is frequently visited by a pair of rare honey badgers.
nThambo Tree Camp is ideal for solo explores, couples and families looking for an affordable but rewarding safari experience.

"We were joining a two week safari tour in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia and wanted to add a greater Kruger experience. We could not have been happier than our 4 nights at nThambo. Two game drives a day, a walking safari midday, were incredible experiences. We saw animals and birds too numerous to mention. We learned about behavior, habitat, and threats to the species. Luan and Isaac were wonderful. All this in a charming and welcoming environment."

"The camp lies in the middle of the bush. There are no fences, so that you may see some animals from your treehouse or from the dining area. The treehouses are great! Comfy, clean and spacious. From your own terrace you have a great view into the bush and the waterhole. There´s a dining area, where you can also relax at the pool and watch the birds or warthogs around the lodge. They may be even elephants coming to the lodge to drink from the waterhole or the pool. The staff is friendly and gives everybody a warm welcome. The game drives are excellent and really exciting. Tracker Issac and Ranger Matt did a real good job, they are legend! You feel that they are really passionate about their job, the bush and the animals. Matt has a real good knowldge about the animals, he always knows a story to tell. Every game drive is a new adventure. Issac is an amazing reader of the tracks. He can tell the whole story behind the tracks he finds. They also offer bushwalks, where you learn a lot about flora and fauna and may also see some wild animals if you´re lucky. We had a great stay, just too short! It was really hard to leave that special place."

"Our family of 4 (adults) travelled to South Africa for a safari holiday. We had the pleasure of staying for 3 nights at nThambo Tree Camp. It was amazing. The game driving was spectacular under the professional guidance of our ranger Matt and our tracker Isaac. Coming home from a game drive one night to find our tree house surrounded by elephants - WOW!! Then as we sat eating a scrumptious dinner in the dining area, we watched as the elephants all made their way to the swimming pool for drinks. Imagine sitting eating your dinner in the African bush, with elephants only metres from you having a drink - only in Africa. The accommodation, food, game viewing and service at nThambo was exceptional. Next time we visit South Africa, we will again visit nThambo and would recommend it to anyone looking for a uniquely African safari holiday."

"Excellent operation, really enjoyed the experience. The staff and the rangers all had the right attitude and for someone who is in the service industry, I am talking from experience - Just a brilliant experience for myself and my wife."

"Great experience overall. Friendly staff and only eight other guests maximum created a "home-like" atmosphere. Food and drink was excellent and the surprise birthday cake & celebration for my wife was a special treat. Game drives and bush walks were everything we could have asked - many thanks to Luan and Isaack for that."

"We stayed at Nthambo tree camp in November. Very nice place with a special view on the bush. Staff very friendly and helpful. We recommend it. Special thanks to Matt and Isaac, ranger very prepared and to all the Nthambo staff."

"Incredible location in the wilderness of Klaserie Private Game Reserve, super friendly staff (special thanks to our ranger Matt and our tracker Isaac for sharing their knowledge about the animals and plants), nice food with a lot of variety, lovely atmosphere in the bush - the huts provide everything you need, but still are basic enough to give you a real adventure experience. Great game viewing opportunities - overall the highlight of our 3 weeks trip to South Africa"

"We had a great time at nThambo. We brought a group of friends with us who had never been to Africa before. Matt worked hard to try to find animals they had not yet seen and the personal service and friendliness was superb. A memorable visit."

"nThambo was our first Kruger safari, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Particular highlights were the comfortable accommodation and the excellence of our ranger and Isaac. We saw some amazing animals, from a pride of lions devouring a zebra to a tiny tree frog, spotted by the eagle-eyed Isaac. The price offers great value for money."
