One of the largest privately owned reserves in southern Africa, sharing unfenced borders with the Kruger. Big Five viewing across 60,000 hectares of pristine bush.
Klaserie Private Nature Reserve
60,000 unfenced hectares of the Greater Kruger
Klaserie Private Nature Reserve forms part of the Greater Kruger, sharing unfenced boundaries with the Kruger National Park. Spanning 60,000 hectares of pristine wilderness, it is one of the largest privately owned reserves in southern Africa. Animals roam freely between Klaserie, the Kruger and neighbouring Timbavati, creating a vast and connected ecosystem.
The reserve is renowned for its walking safaris, offering guests the chance to explore the African bush on foot with armed rangers. Vehicle density is notably lower than in the public Kruger or the better-known Sabi Sands, which means quieter sightings and a more intimate experience. All of the Big Five are present, along with cheetah, wild dog and over 400 bird species.
Klaserie sits between the Timbavati to the north and the Kruger's Orpen Gate to the east. Compared with Sabi Sands, Klaserie offers a wilder, less-trafficked feel at roughly half the nightly rate. Where Sabi Sands is best known for close-range leopard sightings, Klaserie's draw is its walking safaris, open landscapes and sense of true remoteness. Timbavati, its immediate neighbour, shares a similar character, though Klaserie's larger footprint tends to mean even fewer vehicles per sighting.

When
The dry winter months from May through September are the best time for a safari in Klaserie. Vegetation thins, waterholes become gathering points for large herds, and game viewing is superb. Days are warm and clear, though nights and early-morning drives can be cold. The green season from October to April brings lush landscapes, migrant bird species, newborn animals and dramatic afternoon thunderstorms. Klaserie is a rewarding destination year-round.

The nearest airport is Hoedspruit Eastgate (IATA: HDS), roughly a one-hour flight from Johannesburg, with most lodges a 30- to 60-minute road transfer from the airstrip. By road, the reserve is approximately 5.5 hours from Johannesburg via the R40. Lodges arrange all transfers, and many guests combine Klaserie with a night or two in the Kruger itself or a visit to the Panorama Route and Blyde River Canyon.

"Lindi Weeks has been assisting us in planning a 4 day safari in the Klaserie Game Reserve. She has been so amazing, assisting us so beautifully with all the decisions to be made. She fell ill with tonsilitis and not even this stopped her from taking calls to answer all our silly questions, even after hours!! We thank you, Lindi and appreciate you. Onika Ame…"
