Grootkolk Wilderness Camp
A SANParks self-catering camp.
Peeking out from between the Kgalagadi's well-loved red sand dunes is Grootkolk. This innovative and comfortable accommodation offers guests the opportunity to bask in the Kalahari atmosphere overlooking a waterhole. It is only 20km from Unions End which is where South Africa, Botswana, and Namibia meet. It is a 2-hour drive from Nossob, and no 4x4 is required
We do not take rest camp bookings. Camps are booked directly with SANParks, where current tariffs are published.
The camp
About Grootkolk Wilderness Camp.
Accommodation
There are only 4 Desert Cabins at Grootkolk which are built with sand bags and canvas offering a different and exciting experience. Guests are to supply their own charcoal or firewood and water.
The camp is not fenced and there is a Camp Attendant on duty at all times (generally no other staff). (consider taking some cooldrink etc for the camp attendant, they are far from home.)
- Two-bed Desert Cabins have 2 single beds, bathroom with toilet and shower, own braai and washing up area. A communal kitchen between 2 cabins with a gas stove and fridge/freezer and boma area. Gas is used for hot water and solar for lighting
Activities & Facilities
There are limited driving opportunities around this camp. This camp is a haven of peace and quiet, allowing you to sit back and watch game coming and going to the waterhole. The waterhole is floodlit, this is a wonderful opportunity to see nocturnal animals.
There are NO convenience facilities at this camp such as fuel, or shop
The luxury alternative
If you would rather not self-cater.
We do not take rest camp bookings. What our safari specialists do arrange is the private Kalahari reserves: private lodges where expert guiding, meals and game drives are included, and nothing is left to the camp kitchen. We look after international travellers and SADC residents alike, and many lodges offer reduced SADC rates.
