Lilydale Rest Camp| safari.com

Overview

In the open plains and thorny koppies of the Northern Cape, Lilydale’s cozy, self-catering chalets overlook the Riet River. Amidst the diamond-yielding dolerite hills, the secluded chalets provide a tranquil space for relaxation surrounded by the untouched and unique natural beauty of the Nama Karoo. Situated approximately 70 kilometers from the main section of Mokala National Park, the camp offers a secluded escape to total wilderness.

Accommodation

Lilydale Rest Camp guests lodge in twelve rustic, traditionally thatched chalets, which each sleep between three and five people. Naturally finished, the chalets echo the calm and unembellished surroundings of the sandy plains and rugged landscape.

Activities & Facilities

Mokala provides ample activities for the outdoor adventurer, including mountain biking, day walks, canoeing, night or day game drives and excursions to view ancient rock art painting and engravings. For nature lovers, there is star-gazing under the night skies and catch and release fly fishing on the river.

Reviews

A lovely alternative to the big game parks. Our stay was great - staff were friendly _ Accomodation was comfortable (only thing i may have included is a few couches in the unit )

We loved the Mokala National Park. It is well run, accommodation is excellent and the peace and quiet wonderful. Will definately go there again.

Pragtige uitsig, al wat kort is 'n TV en oe die pad, kan die regering nie iets daaraan doen nie.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay. The chalet was clean and immaculate, and the game was in beautiful condition. We had a couple of lovely dips in the pool, and thoroughly enjoyed the whole stay.

We were a family that was looking for a place to get together. The quality of the chalets were better than we expected although I stayed in one of the more updated ones. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would like to thank your friendly reception/kitchen staff and unobtrusive cleaning crew for it.Louise

For a family of 5, the chalet offered excellent value for money. The view over the Riet River was superb. Our game drive with Jarryd proved highly educational - the children loved interacting with him. We enjoyed 2 sightings of rhino, one with Jarryd and one when we were (alone!) on our way back to Lilydale from Mosu Lodge. I found your little shop rather sad from the point of view of international visitors wanting to take something away as a reminder. Otherwise, many thanks to Carien who personally recommended Lilydale and very kindly changed our booking from Skukuza to Lilydale at short notice.

The stay was very nice, only problem were some of the electrical fittings in the Chalet were not working.

We have spent one night at Lilydale. The National Park really impressed us. It is well equiped and clean and the location is beautiful. The dirt road from the main road is just painfull to drive to get to the entrance. We enjoyed ourselves.

My family and I thouroughly enjoyed our weekend at Mokala Park. We had pleasant, clean and comforable accomodation at Lilydale Camp. We saw plenty of game and found the experience great as it is not over crowded at all.

Frances Greathead

The most friendly personnel working in the camp and specifically Mr Abel Ramavhale who went out of his way to accommodate us on arriving late at the entrance gate! Thank you very much! Unfortunately on driving all the way to the other camp (Mosu)for breakfast, the lady in the restaurant (Susan) was extremely unkind by "attacking" the waiter who assisted us BECAUSE SHE HAD A GROUP BOOKING! She did in such a manner that we, sitting in the restaurant could hear each word of the conversation...This was totally unnecessary and unprofessional.
